That’s not true. They’ll only be discarded if they are undeliverable. You can send a normal letter in the US through the USPS without a return address.
ah, looks like I either misremembered, or was told false information at some point.
A lot of things do need a return address. But, not simple letters.
that’s not true in my experience at all. every letter sent without a return address gets delivered.
