Just saw it. I thought it was good, but definitely stretched too thin in some ways. It was like they were trying to fit as much from the book as possible but the runtime was too short for that. Overall still good and worth a watch IMO.
My own little pet theory is that 17 is a liberal and 18 is a leftist.
I think many of us don’t realize that there’s a better option. As in, this is just the way it is. Many who do learn there are alternatives then fall to propaganda about how the alternatives are worse or communist, etc.
In the past week I’ve seen:
Ne Zha
The Rule of Jenny Pen (theater)
Ne Zha was decent. Really fun action sequences and great visuals in the action sequences. Some of the humor didn’t land, likely because it’s a kids movie and maybe because I’m American and Chinese humor just doesn’t land as well for me.
The Rule of Jenny Pen was certainly something. Its basically John Lithgow physically and mentally abusing elderly people with a puppet. I’d recommend watching it. Lithgow does a great job playing an absolutely unhinged psychopath.
Most likely someone at the AI company would catch it and filter those strings out of the training data.
It stems back to a PR from the SerenityOS project where someone changed a “he” to a “they” in the documentation and the PR was declined for “personal politics”
Here’s an article about it: https://hyperborea.org/reviews/software/ladybird-inclusivity/
It does leave out this response by Kling on Twitter:
They release these on Saturday or early Sunday pretty frequently, projected from presales, previews, and Friday #s. They can be a little off but they’re usually pretty close.
Pretty bad opening considering the budget is rumored to be $100m+.
Alternatively, let’s nationalize Starlink
In our recent election, I was led to believe the president controls the price of eggs.
Honey can technically expire. If it crystalizes, some portions of it can become more diluted, leading to a low enough osmotic pressure for bacteria and fungi to exist. If you do buy in bulk, check your local universities. One in my area does honeybee research and sells bulk honey from their bee lab at cheaper prices than any of the private beekeepers. I use it to make mead.
Maybe Revolt or Matrix?

bee populations are declining rapidly due to habitat loss, pesticides, parasites, and climate change.
Not sure why habitat loss is listed since honeybees are invasive in the U.S. We should be focusing harder on saving native pollinators.
Can your toaster produce fascist propaganda?
Mozilla says that “there are a number of places where we collect and share some data with our partners” so that Firefox can be “commercially viable,” but it adds that it spells those out in its privacy notice and works to strip data of potentially identifying information or share it in aggregate.
Sounds like they’ve already been selling (or trading) data and this whole debacle is a way to retroactively cover their asses.
Since my comment on the previous post, I’ve seen:
The Goonies (rewatch)
Pineapple Express (rewatch)
Nickel Boys (theater)
Flow (theater)
Speed
The Other Guys (rewatch)
Universal Soldier
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Did a double feature with my S/O at the theater on Saturday with Nickel Boys and Flow. Both were very good in their own ways.
Lots of rewatches this week since I was just in mood to watch some of my goto comfort movies.
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen Speed before but it’s been so long and my memory of it is so vague, I’m considering it basically a first time watch. Great action flick. Keanu is goofy and fun as usual and Sandra Bullock is very charming in her role.
Universal Soldier was very dumb and pretty much a ripoff of Terminator. Very fun action flick nonetheless. Would be a good one to watch and riff on with friends.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding was pretty good. It was interesting that it’s a romcom that avoids a lot of romcom tropes and had an unconventional protagonist for the genre, but still works perfectly fine as a romcom.
In the past week, I’ve watched:
Paddington in Peru (theater)
Moonstruck
The Gorge
Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse
Cape Fear
The Monkey (theater)
I’d say both The Monkey and Paddington in Peru are among my favorite 2025 movies so far (though it’s early obv).
Moonstruck is always great, watched it with my fiancée for Valentines Day.
The Gorge was pretty mediocre with some interesting bits, but it just didn’t work for me overall.
Spiderman was great; idk why I hadn’t seen it yet but I love how the newer animated Spiderman movies experiment with different art styles.
Cape Fear was good. I loved how unhinged De Niro was in this.
Interlibrary Loan isn’t available everywhere (at least back when I used to work at a library ~10 years ago it wasn’t). If it is, it often has an associated fee (usually at least shipping fees, sometimes an additional service fee). I think the common exception to that is public university libraries.
