This is about as witty as a box of rocks, just like it was when it was invented in 2007.

I agree that nuclear is an option that ought to be considered as part of the mix.
I’m not convinced that it’s right for Australia given our unique circumstances.
I disagree on cost. We’ve never built nuclear. We not only need a reactor, buy need to buy all the relevant skills and build all the supports to create an industry. I genuinely believe that the cost per kWh would be far greater than our other options.
The many hundreds of billions is better put to renewables, storage, and hydrogen cracking.
There are some next gen reactors being built in different places. Smaller output, less waste, salt cooled. We should let others bear the cost of development and see how it pans out.
Not necessarily.
Perhaps 20 years ago Biden WorldCom acquitted himself better.
That said Trumps performance is a well established debate strategy called a gish gallop - just say dozens of lies and your opponent won’t be able to rebut them all. If they try, they won’t have time for their own points.
building nuclear power plants isn’t just like putting a leg of lamb in the oven though.
it would take a gargantuan investment of money, skills, labour, et cetera. All of which ought to be directed to building out renewable facilities.
pay more mind to content than affiliations
That’s not really possible when commenters with certain affiliations are known to be manipulative and participate in bad faith.
Great points.
I think the option of nuclear needs to be on the table, and in some (or many) circumstances it might be the best fit.
Presently in Australia one of our two major parties is campaigning on a “pivot to nuclear” platform, but we’re kind the polar opposite to the netherlands (both figuratively and literally?). The vast majority of Australia is sunny desert, girt by sea, with a tiny population in on the coast. My state is something like 2,000km by 1,250km, with about 2 million people. Nuclear just doesn’t seem like a good fit right now.
My concern is that with this pivot to nuclear we basically just keep burning coal for the next 20 years while we’re building nuclear plants.
It might be a great idea to build several reactors, while we furiously build out wind and solar.
There are some gargantuan solar hydrogen cracking projects not far from here in the planning phase which just sound amazing to me.
WDYM?
Brigadeers can just upvote comments supporting their position and exclude contrary ones.
That’s just not true.
Sure ok you might not see how many upvotes a user has received but that’s not how vote manipulation works.
Votes influence what you see, and perhaps more importantly they influence what users perceive to be popular opinions.
Upvotes for “genocide joe” comments are a good example. A few people can make an idea seem like it’s mainstream.
The problem with this, is that it only blocks posts. You’re still going to see comments, and posts and comments are still subject to vote manipulation.
If it was just about transparency he would’ve released it sooner.
Sitting on it to release at the right time was partisan.
He released information relating to government officials engaging in misconduct
… at precisely the right time to maximise the effect of the release and diminish her chances at winning the election.
No whistleblowers shouldn’t go to prison, I’m glad Assange is going home but I do dislike him immensely.
This. It’s not just a switch to be flipped.
What’s done is done. From day 1 after the referendum it was obvious to everyone that the UK would spend the next 50 years trying to mitigate the impact of that ridiculous decision. Hotting the “rejoin” button is not necessarily a short cut to the end.
Well it’s made a lot of people feel satisfied that they’ve done their bit and had their say.
Is that the definition of CSAM?
Trespass can mean merely imposing on the rights of another.
So if one is entitled to privacy on their property, then flying a drone over it is trespass.
Ginger tea is my bag baby yeah.
Meh.
Their job is to defend stonehenge at all costs. They wouldn’t let people look at it if they could get away with it.
Of course they’re going to say that the powder is reckless and could potentially upset the lichen or something.
It’s hard to believe that this stunt could have any measurable impact in another 10 years or so.
Maybe this one will end capitalism.
Maybe but I get the impression the next iteration will be worse, not better - an authoritarian slave state dressed up as socialism or something. You don’t need money to be poor after all.
I use a mail client… but it’s beyond me why I’d want that to be part of my web browser.
I’m an accountant.
The best accounting software will be the one your accountant uses.
When clients are on the same platform that I use internally everything just matches up and it’s beautiful and elegant and amazing.
When clients are using something else it just doesn’t fit our workflows and it’s just more of a fuck around, which of course the client gets charged for.
