Eliyahu also voices his objection during the interview to allowing any humanitarian aid into Gaza, saying “we wouldn’t hand the Nazis humanitarian aid,”

The Nazis never had nukes or the backing of the United States. They didn’t have a state religion. They weren’t dispatching military assets to settle their neighboring territories. Zionism is worse than naziism.

They didn’t have a state religion, but not for lack of trying. Most of Germany was Christian in some way, and that was exploited by the Nazis, but they generally wanted their people to be Nazis first and anything else second. If Nazi Germany had continued, I’m sure Nazism would have been the state religion.

Now they are openly advocating for genocide. His Nazi-comparison is wrong, because in this case, the one not “handing out” humanitarian aid is the Nazi.

One can be both a Jew and a Fascist.

(I am totally not saying that all Jews are Fascist, because that would be a malicious lie. All Jews that I encountered where really nice people doing their best. But that guy (and a worrying amount of other members of the Israeli government) is a faschist.)

Even if he was booted, it’s a bad sign that
        a) people like this have.been in the government at all
        b) now came out of the woodwork with their bullshit because the atmosphere in general is so much in their favour overall that they just slightly misread the room when they came out to the public with their genocidal ideology.

This particular government is the worst we’ve ever had. It was chosen by Netanyahu, who, you might be surprised, isn’t at all a fascist, barely right winged. He is an opportunist. He took control of a mid to right winged party, one that made peace with Egypt. He realised his only way to gain votes (and later to get out of prison) was to outdo the right winged parties and ‘steal’ their voters. This made him good friends with the ultra orthodox and extreme right wingers. His party has become him, anyone still in his own party are idiots and imbeciles, none of who can operate a gevernment. Netanyahu is the scum of the earth, he has a government made of the worst our country has to offer. He is changing the laws and the governing system to get out of jail and become another Erdoğan/ bolsonaro /Putin, and just stay in power forever, stealing money from everyone as he has been doing for decades.

And idealist right winger would at least have a plan other than to save his own career and money while destroying the country and its institutions.

A politician who surrounds himself with fascists is a fascist, even if he’s not a true believer. That’s why I don’t hesitate to call Trump fascist even though his motivations are clearly all about enriching himself and stroking his ego.

Serious question: what does Israel have against Ireland? Here they’re saying that Hamas should go there, and earlier today there was a different article saying that Israel wasn’t letting Irish nationals evacuate Gaza right now.

Second, why Ireland of all places? And why Ireland or deserts? Ireland isn’t an inhospitable wasteland. They have water and grass and electricity. Soccer too, sure, but nowhere’s perfect.

Or you know, Israel has turned the Star of David, a holy symbol throughout Judaism, into a hate symbol because the gazan’s they oppressed decided they had enough and struck back.

Look, neither side is the good guy. Both have hurt and murdered civilian populations.

It needs to stop. Lay down arms and talk. But this blood fued is older then all of us, and reason had never prevailed here.

Its a terrible loss for both sides, and the world at large.

I feel both sides will feel cultural backlash, to the point of outside violence, before this is over.

No one wins, everyone loses. Yay humanity /s.

Actually, if Israel actually does launch a nuclear strike against Gaza, that will firmly put them in the “bad guys” category and justify every stupid fucking goddamn horrible thing that Hamas has ever done. Straight up.

There’s no hate behind my words, I like Israel and I have nothing but respect for the Jewish people, but if the Israeli government is allowed to just do that with no consequences, then it means evil truly has triumphed over good. I greatly fear to see what kind of a world such an action would create.

I absolutely loathe Otzma Yehudit. They are like MAGA, Vox, National Rally, and the rest of the far right religious assholes. While I understand why Israel separated religious courts and authority from the government (don’t like how they did it though), they should have, at the very least, tied voting and government eligibility to national service. So much of the ultra orthodox functions like the extremist Mormon FLDS does in the US. A fucking stain on my people.

By and large Otzma Yehudit voters do serve in the army. You are confusing Religious Zionists (who do serve, and make up the bulk of the far-right and settlers in Israel) with the Ultra-Orthodox (who do not serve, and largely don’t have views about the conflict and are more worried about social programs for their community who are by and large poor).

Oh damn. You’re right. I’m a little more familiar with ben Gvir’s history than the whole movement and conflated them. Looking into it, I have changed my stance. The military needs better separation of Torah and State. Also, ben Gvir and Otzma Yehudit are still just giant piles of shit.

I still have issues with much of the Haredi. Things like their iron grip on religious control in Israel, domestic abuse issues, cult like behavior, demanding special treatment, and feeding off of others to survive.

But yeah that isn’t Otzma Yehudit. They’re more of religious militants it seems. Certainly not helping the state of things. Doesn’t help that the haredi groups and religious zionists easily form coalitions.

I’m of two minds about national service. On one hand, it seems like a powerful tool to build national unity. On the other hand, I see a lot of risk that people will be forced to serve in ways that offend their conscience.

My main reference point is the US during the Vietnam War. Lots of people were conscripted and sent to fight in a war they didn’t believe in. Being a conscientious objector was a thing, but the criteria were very narrow, such that (for example) I would not have qualified even though I consider it an immoral war. The main way people got out of serving was though the exemption for people getting university degrees, but that of course is a very unfair system that only benefits people who are privileged enough to attend a university.

This shit bag is many shit bags who hold power in the Israeli government. I present you, Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir. Who wants to create their own militia:

In a further swipe against a previous attempt by Ben Gvir to form a national guard that would be independent from the police and answer directly to his ministry, Shabtai said: “I have fought and I will fight with all my strength to guarantee that any policing force will be subordinate to the Border Police and the Israel Police.”

    Has convictions:

Before becoming a lawyer and entering politics, he was convicted of offenses that include inciting racism and supporting a terrorist organization.

Was a disciple of an extremist, racist rabbi:

The lawmaker, Itamar Ben Gvir, has long admired Meir Kahane, the late racist rabbi. Kahane’s violent anti-Arab ideology — which included calls to ban Jewish-Arab intermarriage and for the mass expulsion of Palestinians — was considered so repugnant that Israel banned him from parliament and the United States listed his party as a terrorist group. Kahane was assassinated by an Arab assailant in New York 32 years ago.
