Howdy pardners, this is a cheeky self-plug for !freegames@feddit.uk, a community I’ve created to post limited-time full-game free giveaways. It’s been going a month or two and I’m already claiming games faster than I can play them, so come and join me and make your what-game-to-play choice paralysis worse!
If I have to have a prime subscription to get the game, it’s not free IMO
Otherwise a great idea!
If I already have a subscription, anything extra is, in practicality, free.
You shouldn’t assume that everyone is giving money to that pathetic company
You shouldn’t assume that nobody is.
I did not. OP did assume that everyone does, by not mentioning that these depend on an active amazon prime subscription.
Most of them don’t, and the ones that do are all tagged with
[
. I made no such assumption! ]Amazon is a storefront, not the subscription. They actually do give out free stuff once in a blue moon, so just saying [Amazon] is not clarification enough. On reddit, subs like this would say “complimentary with Prime” or something like that.
That is cool, thanks for the clarification!
Technically true, though you can start a free trial of Prime and claim all the games, and then (supposedly) they’re still yours to keep after the trial expires. A small hoop to jump through, but it should mean free games!
Depends. Some of the games they give you are on gog. Those you certainly get to keep.
IRC Others are only available as long as you’re a prime member.
According to the game pages themselves:
Games with Prime are free to collect and can be kept forever.
I’ve not tried cancelling myself, but a quick web search for other people asking this question says yes you do keep them!
What, no, absolutely not. In fact I recall the games you get via their launcher don’t even have DRM on them. I’ll check them again at some point.
Doesn’t really work if I’ve had a subscription before, or used said free month some time in the past.
Only issue here is to flag it’s on Twitch Prime so everyone has the right expectation.
Can you not create a new account with a new (or alias) email? Or do they want phone number, card, or other less-easily-created details?
The Amazon ones are tagged as such, but there are plenty of other providers with less hoops to jump through!
I thought there was already a piracy community
Lol, this one is for honourable sailors of the king’s navy
Oh boy, have I got some treats in store for you…
Question - is it just video games, or are you looking for tabletop RPGs too?
Ooh, I hadn’t considered free tabletop giveaways! Is that a print-at-home sort of thing?
Edit: I misread tabletop RPGs as board games, d’oh! I think somewhere like !rpg@ttrpg.network might be better, but we could have a TTRPG Tuesday or similar.
Pretty much, although these days a lot of folks find it more convenient to have the rules in .pdf for easy access. There’s hundreds available. Here’s a listing I had posted last night on the @13thFloor magazine I run over here on kbin - happy to crosspost if you feel it fits.
Ah OK, stuff that’s always free isn’t really what I made the community for, it’s more about grabbing games that are normally paid. I do think that !rpg@ttrpg.network would be a good place top cross-post to though!
No worries & thanks for the suggestion.
Yeeee ᕕ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ᕗ

Since many of us are subbed anyway, they’re still something of value that one doesn’t have to pay extra money for. And it’s really easy to forget about them, so smeg’s community is doing a nice service for the rest of us.
All the ones not from Amazon are, and if you want you can just create a free Prime trial, claim all the free games, keep them indefinitely, and give them no money

No problem with that, plenty of indies on IndieGala and itch.io to claim instead

Roughly every week but I’ve not really noticed an exact pattern. I believe Lemmy lets you subscribe to a community as an RSS feed so you could use that as a notification if you can get it working!
