This is exactly how I speak to my dad when he wants to play a game of pool. I tell him that I’ll play only if he doesn’t throw temper tantrums, he tells me that he’ll do his best and I always regret my decision. I haven’t played pool with him in years. The only way to win is to not play.
I agree. At the root of it, people want to feel safe. This is a fundamental need. Religion does this for them because they don’t need to make decisions and they’re promised that if they follow it they will indeed be kept safe. Also spiritual bypass is awesome.
