I also recommend them, they are great. Some things that i especially like is the connection between the two main characters, the books giving you a very believable idea on how dragon-based warfare could work and showing different ways various cultures interact with dragons. While the major european powers mostly stick to the air force part mentioned in my earlier comment and generally don’t interact with people outside the military much, china for example has dragons more integrated into society and holding a wider variety of jobs. Book 4 showed a lot about dragons in southern africa, though i won’t spoil the specifics.
I have completed book 4 since my previous comment and am now deep into book 5.
I am currently about halfway through the fourth book of the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik. A sort of historical fantasy set in a version of the Napoleonic wars in a world with dragons, which are used by the nations of that world as a sort of airforce. This one in particular is about a disease threatening the british dragons and the search for a cure.

Venus has some things going for it, like a relatively earth-like gravity of 8,87 m/s² (about 90% of earths) , an atmosphere blocking radiation and being relatively close to earth . The proposed colony would float in a part of the atmosphere that is less hot and dense than the surface. It still wouldn’t be very useful, you can’t utilise the resources on the surface. And it would be obviously very risky.
There was the episode with Scotty in TNG (Relics) where there was indeed the problem of the pattern of the person who was in the buffer with him degrading, but that was over decades (2294-2369), while M’Bengas daughter was in the pattern buffer significantly less time. She was also rematerialised from time to time and it was noted that not doing so risked the integrity of the pattern, which contributed to the issue seen in the TNG episode.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Crusader Kings 3. So it’s either a time travel episode or something like those “planet closely resembling a period of earth history” episodes in TOS. Considering there are no records of Tomàs the wise, king of Ireland and Aquitaine, probably the latter.
Started using a waterpick because of this post.
I got Backpack Hero. Played the demo on itch.io last year and i enjoyed it back then so i already planned on buying it at some point, and seeing it on sale gave me the push to actually do that. And this newer version is good, some mechanics like the curse system have been improved and obviously this version has more content.
I have seen posts on Tumblr from people who went (back) there because of the Twitter situation, so there is an additional direction.
I have an interest in both and i do think those two interests are related for me.
Yes, Relay. Not nearly as much as before the whole API situation, but i still use it occasionally.
I don’t think the website name is that unusual, there are plenty of lemmy servers with names that don’t contain the word “lemmy” like feddit.de, discuss.tchncs.de, beehaw.org or pawb.social.
I primarily read novels, but i have read a decent amount of short stories. Most recently the ones from “Stories of your life and other stories” by Ted Chiang. Aside from that i have a few other short story collections, and a science magazine i am subscribed to (Spektrum der Wissenschaft) has one with each issue.
In German it is called “Das nächste Jahrhundert” meaning “The next century”, which avoids that issue.
