I’m an animation student and have realized at some point in my life, that this planet cannot be saved without moving to a class-less, state-less and money-less society. I consider myself a Marxist.

  • I don’t agree with ppl saying it’s a waste of time to debate others. Depending on the person ure talking with, it may be very possible that you help them move into the right difection. Or maybe the ppl listening. That’s partially how i got here.

I have a friend who continuously asks questions abt communism, but will then counter my answers with an assumptions of his, but in a friendly, devil’s advocate kinda way. That’s pretty much a debate, I think and so far I could help him understand certain concepts. When I’m outta answers I simply say that I have no clue atm and know that I have to look up that certain topic and learn more abt it. So it’s helpful to myself as well.

While I don’t have anything to recommend for forming better arguments, in my experience, the better you understand a topic the better you are at arguing for it. Very often it’s simply abt not falling for the usually false, misinformed premise ur ‘opponent’ presents u with. I’ve also found that it’s best not to engage people at all who are just looking for a fight. Hope this helped.

  • Oooh, swimming is rly cool for this. When going swimming with your friends it’s easy to alternate between playing or whatever and swimming with proper form for as long as possible. It may not be a replacement for a complete workout, but I like to use it as a substitute for triceps and lat workout for instance. Apart from that, I think it’s good for like lung capacity and it’s also healthy for ur joints. Other watersports concerning: I did some Kajaking last summer and I gotta tell you, ur arms are gonna be sore af from that. Only bummer is, ur legs are left out completely there.

Apart from that, I personally think running in itself is fun. But thinking of actually fun ways to run, then Football, Baseball or Parkour come to mind. Since I know a person that hates running, but loves cycling, ig cycling is a good substitute for running.

Presently, I prefer to just do weight lifting. Since I’m still a student, i also get to do other sports easily, as that is a mandatory subject. Once i’m finished with school tho I imagine I’ll stick with weight lifting. Tho I’m itching to try out MMA as well. Jiujitsu is another sport u may wanna try out. I did it for a few years and it’s a very social sport where ure bound to meet new ppl.

    Hope this helped OwO

  • There’s a German/Austrian greenwashed alternative called Avocadostore. Might wanna take a look at that. It says it has several requirements if one wants to sell anything on there, regarding ones business’ “climate friendliness” or so. Most stuff on there is on the more expensive side of things as one could imagine and I got no idea abt the quality. Regarding shipping, even to Austria the costs are like 10€ or so. Been a while since I took a look at it… Might be worth checking it out.

  • The last nail in the coffin for my relationship was that I never ceased to talk abt communism xD Dunno how my next relationship will look like whenever I decide to start dating again, but I’m guessing it would need to be someone who is as interested in politics as am I, and also at least open to Marxism.

But rn I’m def good being single. Got more time to engage with my comrades this way and I can generally focus on myself. It’s interesting btw how often this gets asked xD

  • Russia being the bad one in the war with Ukraine. I used to tell my mother, that one can totally be against both Russia and the US, and I just didn’t get how she could talk abt them defending themselves from Nato and so on.

And then I became a dirty lil Commie.

Also the term “Tankie”. I rly thought (due to influencers like NFKRZ) that tankies were stupid ppl who didn’t understand history or so… AND THEN I BECAME A TANKIE - Proudly so.

  • For me, it started out as principle, but I kept on disliking it till this day and age.

The “principle” reason is simple; I think most will be able to remember how some years prior TikTok was like the cringiest thing to exist. Everyone was hating on it, including me. Then suddenly at some point everybody seemed to have started using it. So many ppl who hated on it, now happily scrolling their ForYou page. Back then I simply didn’t wanna backtrack on what I said and thought, as I was really of the impression that my criticism was justified.

My criticism back then wasn’t unjustified, I’d say. I saw what TikTok was like; the endless scrolling and whatnot and decided I disliked that. There were many videos talking abt how negatively it impacts ones attention span as well.

No idea if the claims abt the destruction of our attention span are actually true, but tbh, I think I simply feel the best on Lemmy. I had to reinstall Instagram the other day, so that I could post my photography somewhere, and I hate it to bits. Today still, TikTok enjoys the status of 'a tiny bit worse than Insta" in my brain. It’s prolly on the same level to me as Fortnite. Simply cringy.

  • I think it depends on the type of work and the type of music. When I’m drawing or doing most creative work, I just have to listen to music. The only time I have to be more specific is when I’m writing, because then I can’t really concentrate on the words, such times call for calm music without words. Now where it gets frustrating is Audio editing. You simply cannot listen to music in the meantime which is SO fckn irritating fr

It’s interesting how music tends to affect so many ppl differently tho O.o

  • Damn bro… So many ppl are reading several books at once apparently. I don’t think my brain could manage so much information at once honestly o.O

I’m reading “Blackshirts and Reds” by Parenti. Am on page 119 rn, and I gotta say I still enjoy Parenti’s simpler style of writing as opposed to Marx’. Also I was surprised how Parenti went into detail abt czechoslovakia even. Specifically abt Vaclav Havél’s privatization campaign. Never thought he’d go that direction. I feel like I learned a LOT through this book and I’ll keep recommending it to everyone who hasn’t read it. I think anyone can profit from reading this.

After I’m done with this book, I thought I might pick up Mao’s “On Practice”? I read “Dialectical and Historical Materialism” by Stalin and “How to be a Good Communist” by Liu Shaoqi, so I hope that book might additionally help me understand philosophy more.

  • Wtf… As it turned out, a small part of my expectations of Wikipedia still remained in me. That little bit has now left me too. These accusations are SO debunkable, you’d think at least someone in their team with some brainmatter existed, who’d be like, ‘Hold up, let’s think this through’ But ok, apparently research is overrated.
