A 1.5 year old flagship costs the same as a brand new midrange phone, but is significantly better.
I just got a S21 Ultra for cheaper than I would have paid for an A54. (Also Exynos is hot fucking garbage. I wanted to get away from Samsung altogether, but the price on this made sense and I has a snapdragon. Significantly better)

This is the real result. Yeah subs will open back up, but the mods who are left are just weird keyboard warriors who think being a mod is like being a cop (I mean obviously this is a generalization, but it’s mostly true) The quality of individual subs is going to suffer and therefore the overall user experience will suffer.

I feel like this is a major oversight to how lemmy works. I feel like instances should be able to maintain overall federation, but ‘disable’ another instance by default, so that it’s virtually invisible unless a user turns it on themselves. NSFW tag is way too broad, it encompasses so much more than porn
If I want to view content posted to FaceBook, they already have websites I can go to.
I personally would prefer defederation with any major corporate owned sites that attempt the use this technology.

If you’re an indie dev marketing game, it’s cheap as shit. Shoving your post into the faces of thousands would very easily get you more than that in sales.
And people will try it in the future when it is a better experience, too. Both things can happen, I promise you.
What I love so much about the internet, is if something important is posted to one of these corporate based social media sites, I’ll see a screen shot of it somewhere else, without ever having to engage with the primary source.
