Letting Ukraine into NATO is actually still a way to prevent Ukraine from getting nukes. That’s been an undercurrent for this whole war. Ukraine is a near-nuclear state. They were the Soviet rust belt. Ukrainians were fully involved with the Soviet weapons development, and there are still people alive in Ukraine today who worked on those bombs and know how to make them. Hell, they probably still have a lot of the old drawings and technical documentation lying around somewhere. Ukraine also operates several power and research reactors and would have no problem getting its hands on some plutonium. Realistically they could have a bomb in just a few months if they wanted to badly enough.

Well I understand that they can’t approve, because of the ruling… but really, everyone should do a little bit more to support Ukraine to do a little better than extend the meat grind.

I think aid should be ramped up, but that the invitation to NATO must wait until this is finished.

Wouldn’t them joining NATO now cause a massive escalation? I thought the idea was for them to join after the war to prevent another in the future.

NATO is an organisation of consensus. So if they where to admit Ukraine into Nato but explicitly exclude the current conflict with Russia, barring nuclear/wmd escalation what issue would there be?

Also if they where to all decide they where going to admit Ukraine AND enter the fight… who would stop them?

I guess what I’m saying is… it depends.

The only reason this matters, is to put more pressure on those countries. After the invitation the next step is the all members must sign the Accession Protocol, which when all have signed would make Ukraine a member. Since those seven countries do not want Ukraine to become a NATO member right now, since that would mean war with Russia, they do not agree on sending the invitation to not be insulted by Ukraine all day long for not ratifying the Accession Protocol. This way it is all rumors and I gurantee you there are more then seven NATO members not wanting a war with Russia.

Really common sense and to be expected right now.

Not surprised our pro fascist mafioso government in slovakia voted no. The mafioso in charge is going to meet Putin soon. I wish the partisans in Russia would be more successful in assassinating him than our own people.

Realistically it wouldn’t be a good thing, Russia and pro russian idiots would blame Ukraine and it’s not like we’d get someone better in charge either.
