I don't got HD TV but I got insulation

I got no Lamborghini's, but I got vaccinations

I got a microwave, I got some pocket change

And even if I didn't, dude, pssh, no complaints

Tonight if you see me knocking on wood

That's just because I'm doing so fucking good

I don't hate my life, no, it's going alright

That's why tonight you see me knocking on wood

    Spose - Knocking on Wood

Apologies for the extended quote. This whole song serves as a reminder that we always have something to be thankful for. There’s humor in it, but the sentiment is sincere and delivered in a catchy song.

Edit: why the flip won’t Lemmy respect line breaks??

replying to your edit: it’s because it’s a reddit clone. In order to have an actual newline, you need to add two spaces at the end of your sentence.

Kind of a niche reference, but one that’s been stuck in my head lately is Pedro the Lion’s “if I still say ‘here I am’ when something wakes me up at 4 AM … How could this be goodbye?”

Given and Denied - Poets of the Fall

"Give me back my innocence cos I wish to dream again

Like I never outgrew my old playground

Where the sun sets slowly with a golden crown and the leaves sing lullabies 'round vacant swings

    Give me those wings"

Magnum just never quite caught that star factor. They’re decent musicians, their vocalist has a lovely, distinctive voice, and their songwriter pens some of the best lyrics in the industry, especially their earlier works (the ones I’m most familiar with). Unfortunately they never quite got commercial success and most people have probably never heard of them. The only reason I heard of them is they opened for Judas Priest once and then Blue Oyster Cult, two bands I was (and still am) a big fan of.

I stumbled over their song The Spirit at just about the time in life I most needed to hear its lyrics.

Other great songs from that era include The Teacher, Soldier of the Line, Sacred Hour, but The Spirit is the one that resonated with me over decades.
