I have never encountered a single smoker who understands that the Heat/AC unit built into the wall of a hotel room is actually a giant hole that pulls air and smoke into it.

I frequently have hotel rooms where some marijuana smoker is smoking outside their room and then suddenly my whole room fills up with weed smell.

Also, I have been at red lights and the person next to me is smoking and then my car fills up with the smell of weed. It happens if the windows are open or with the Heat or AC on.

I actually believe the government shouldn’t regulate what we do with our bodies but the since marijuana smokers cannot be considerate of other people they shouldn’t have the right to take away others rights.

This. In my area smoking within 10 feet of access entrances to buildings (both Marijuana and tobacco) is also not allowed, has to be done in designated areas to the side.

Great! Stay at home and smoke and stop smoking in public! The point is smokers should lose their rights if they are going to take away the rights of others. Do I (or other non-smokers) not have any right to sit in peace in a hotel room and not have the room fill up with pot smoke?

Where are you staying that hotel rooms fill up with smoke? I’ve literally never had that issue

The smell of weed smoke. Some portion of the smoke is also coming in the room. Every hotel that has a Heat/AC unit is essentially a hole in the wall which sucks in air from the outside. Marijuana smokers will smoke outside their rooms because they think they are outside without understanding how strong the smell is or that the Heat/AC units pull in air from the outside.

Not any more than you have a right to not have anyone else have a conversation near your hotel room.

Smells you personally dislike aren’t something you get to ban anyone else from enjoying.

Come on! A conversation cannot be something you can compare to marijuana smoke. I have noise canceling headphones that I can put on if noises are too loud. I also have earplugs. What am I going to do when my whole hotel room smells like weed?

The point is consideration. The point is that non-smokers have rights too. The point is that smokers are quick to tell “Fuck you, if you don’t like it because I have the legal right to smoke” while not even considering that someone else has a right to not smoke and breathe unpolluted air.

It is the same. It’s not your property. You don’t get to dictate what other people do nearby.

Marijuana is just one of many smells you are very likely to be exposed to if you get a hotel room in a populated area, and it’s far more pleasant to many than a lot of the alternatives.

You disliking a smell does not give you ownership of the whole surrounding area.

I do feel the same way about cigarette smokers smoking right outside my hotel room but like I previously stated marijuana smoke is stronger, more pungent, lingers and travels longer. If someone is smoking a cigarette in a car next to you it’s possible you catch the smell but there’s chances that you don’t versus if someone is smoking pot you are probably going to smell it.

Cigarette smokers are more common and worse.

Here the law is no smoking (anything) within 5m(16ft) of a door, window or fresh air intake. Most places have signs (mandatory can’t expect everyone to know every grill is/isn’t an intake vs say an exhaust) to tell you can’t smoke there.

Yes, but marijuana smoke is much more pungent and travels further. You can smell it from far away and it seems to linger unlike tobacco smoke.

Bro, I smoke at my house. I live alone on my own property. I agree for the most part about smoking in public, but also, if I want to enjoy a joint in the majesty of nature I don’t think I should be precluded from doing so in a way that doesn’t harm others. Personally, edibles are better for that purpose. But don’t make laws about something because you don’t like it. That’s fascism. Hit me with hard facts, then you can make some laws. Otherwise it’s just another unjustified war on people you don’t like.

By that logic anything that doesn’t emit 100% cleanly should be banned from use then … cars, power plants, manufacturing plants, etc.

You have a right to avoid a smoker just as much as they have a right to be in that public place.

I don’t have a problem with the smell - if anything I love smelling it everywhere. It reminds me that the world can get better.

But people vaping large stinking clouds annoys me, so I can sympathize. I don’t think that people should go to jail for annoying others though.

Always check the star rating before checking into a hotel. The Motel 6 might save you money but guests are more likely to smoke weed outside their room than they are at the Hilton.

I agree with you but then someone else’s nasty habit and inconsideration is costing me more money. I’m not costing anyone any money by minding my own business in my hotel room.

As someone in recovery, I totally feel what you’re putting down. HOWEVER, most places that have decriminalized/allow recreational already make it illegal to smoke and drive and (typically) public use is also forbidden. Just think of the smell as an unsavory fart or a water treatment plant; it’s unpleasant, sticks to the inside of your nose, but passes shortly. Nothing you can do about it but wait for the TEMPORARY unpleasantness to pass.

Having worked in a hotel as well, if that happens just ask for a new room and explain the issue. Most front desk people (even late at night) are more than happy to do what they can to accommodate you.

I get that people don’t like the smell of pot and/or cigarettes but is there actual harm from a breath or two of it occasionally? I suspect it is negligible.
