A New York-bound Virgin Atlantic flight was canceled just moments before takeoff last week when an alarmed passenger said he spotted several screws missing from the plane’s wing.

    35 people have died in commercial airline crashes in the last 10 years. (U.S. numbers) That number is higher than we want it but being that there are ~45,000 flights a day. That would mean about 164,250,000 flights over a 10 year period. I’m going to say the flight checks are doing pretty well.

    Sadly, I doubt there has been many days in the last 10 years that hasn’t had 35+ deaths in car accidents. Averaging ~115 a day.
