Earlier, the BBC’s Rushdi Abualouf reported that a contact still inside Gaza City’s largest hospital, Al-Shifa, had told him 170 bodies were being buried in a mass grave there.
Since then, we’ve heard from the hospital’s director who says 179 people, including babies, have been buried in the grave within the hospital grounds.
“There are bodies littered in the hospital complex and there is no longer electricity at the morgues,” Mohammad Abu Salmiyah is quoted by multiple news agencies as saying. “We were forced to bury them in a mass grave.”
The BBC’s Rushdi Abualouf has heard that no people, or any items of aid, have been allowed in or out of the Al-Shifa hospital for the last 48 hours, according to one of his contacts.
That source - one of the few remaining journalists in the hospital - says four people had tried to leave Al-Shifa yesterday, but were shot in the legs and left on the ground bleeding for around two hours.
Medics had to risk their lives to get them into the hospital for treatment, the source tells Abualouf.
This is why it’s a war crime to use hospitals as military bases. And ambulances as military transports.
And somehow this makes withholding all aid for 48 hours not a war crime? Shooting innocent people and leaving them to just bleed on the ground is totally cool now?
One war crime doesn’t excuse another.
The point is that militarizing emergency equipment causes civilian casualties by turning medical facilities into legitimate military targets
So do you think what Israel is doing is ok? Cutting off all supplies to a hospital? Is this just standard war stuff in your mind?
You are making the mistake of assuming everything is a binary choice. Disagreeing with Hamas’s actions does not mean you support the IDF’s. And vice versa.
I think this person can answer for themself.
And I know, I support neither. That would be a pretty stupid mistake to make, “oh wow it never occurred to me that two groups could be wrong,” really?
If the hospital is a military base, it makes sense that supplies would be cut off to it.
There’s no way to escape the fact that war is terrible. But we do have things called the rules of war which brings the horrible nature of it down a couple notches. Driving around military forces under a red cross is a war crime, pure and simple, for exactly this reason - if a military force doesn’t have the honor to respect the sanctity of lifesaving medical care, then they’re going to make every medical center into a potential target for attack.
I am not a fan of everything Israel has done, but they’re clearly the better people in this scenario.
Not if it is also a hospital. Then cutting off supplies is fucking disgusting, and absolutely not justified even if there was a base there as well. You know there are civilians and it’s your responsibility to not harm them on purpose. I don’t even care if you agree it’s a war crime at this point, this is just straight up morals.
And, as it happens, it’s not looking like a military base now is it? Turns out all this suffering could have been for nothing.
They are doing a genocide, so “not a fan” seems a bit light, but ok thanks.
By what metric are they better? They have killed many times more innocents and they’re treating war crimes like a fucking bingo card at this point.
And necessary. This is why turning hospitals into military bases is a war crime. If you’re offended at military actions taken against hospitals, talk to Hamas about it.
See, you’re deluding yourself into pretending they’re genocidal. That’s the difference here. I live in reality.
Can’t help but notice Israel hasn’t shown any proof yet.
If there was any it would be out almost immediately because of the kickback they’ve gotten about it so far.
Also no they’re not the better perks here, they’ve killed ten times as many civilians as they’ve lost. Think about that. Israel also historically have also used hospitals and schools as bases of operation so the hypocrisy is a bit of a fun hurdle to reach the moral high ground. Operation shark dealt directly with this fact.
Dude they did a fucking video tour of a military base built into a hospital, do you seriously not know anything at all about this topic?
You say this as of Hamas’s casualty figures they relate via the Gaza health ministry mean anything. Hell, they probably include the people Hamas has killed to prevent them from fleeing the conflict zone.
No they showed a short video without geolocation and photos of generic rooms and hallways again with no geo data. That isn’t proof.
They’re being supported by several international third party groups, take it with a grain of salt but they’re more credible than “nuh uh!”
So… By your logic, if Al-Qaeda took hostages in the new NYC world trade center — you think it would be fair game for the US gov to bomb the WTC as it’s now a “military target”?
What?
Yeah if somehow Al Qaeda turned the world trade center into a military base it would be a military target.
The US doesnt operate like that inside it’s own borders. It would be a police and FBI action and would never be a ‘military target’ or treated as such.
The question was pretty stupid, but I thought I’d still answer it. There’s no way a foreign power would be able to build a hostile military base on US soil
