The D.C. dysfunction is more proof, they would argue, that the nation needs a “Red Caesar” who will cut through the what they call constitutional gridlock and impose order.

If you’re not one of those dudes who thinks about Ancient Rome every day, let me translate. The alleged brain trust of an increasingly fascist MAGA movement wants an American dictatorship that would “suspend” democracy in January 2025 — just 15 months from now.

It’s so weird to me that they think the person for this job is Donald Trump. After everything he has said and done, they think Trump should be the dictator of America.

Because Trump is their perfect dictator.

Their perfect dictator isn’t someone who’s ‘good’ for America, insofar as any dictator could possibly be good.

Their perfect dictator is someone who makes them feel good about themselves. Their perfect dictator is a racist narcissistic moron, because they’re racist narcissistic morons.

Wait a minute…you mean to tell me there’s a class problem involved here?

While I appreciate the article’s point, and agree with its thesis that the Republicans are increasingly a fascist cult of personality around a rapist and serial financial criminal, I hate that it acts like this is so surprising. This political point is the direct result of decades of cutting social safety nets, deregulating industry, and letting a small cadre of people become wealthy beyond comprehension by controlling what people do, what people watch, and what people read every day of their lives. It’s not hard to grasp: a socially-conservative kleptocracy facing the loss of its international hegemony is faced with two options: 1) reform in ways that better the lives of its people at the expense of a fraction of the leading class’ wealth; or 2) double down and descend into fascism.

Until we get people to really act beyond posting online and relatively small, fully peaceful and sanctioned protests, we will never stop this descent. And the worst part is that this is all so god damned predictable.

Kill billionaires. Behead billionaires. Roundhouse kick a billionaire into the concrete. Slam dunk a billionaire’s baby into the trashcan. Crucify the filthy rich. Defecate in a billionaire’s food. Launch billionaires into the sun. Stir fry billionaires in a wok. Toss billionaires into active volcanoes. Urinate into a billionaire’s gas tank. Judo throw billionaires into a wood chipper. Twist billionaires’ heads off. Report billionaires to the IRS. Karate chop billionaires in half. Curb stomp pregnant rich billionaires. Trap billionaires in quicksand. Crush billionaires in the trash compactor. Liquefy billionaires in a vat of acid. Eat billionaires. Dissect billionaires. Exterminate billionaires in the gas chamber. Stomp billionaire skulls with steel toed boots. Cremate billionaires in the oven. Lobotomize billionaires. Mandatory abortions for billionaires. Grind billionaire fetuses in the garbage disposal. Drown billionaires in truffle oil. Vaporize billionaires with a ray gun. Kick old billionaires down the stairs. Feed billionaires to alligators. Slice billionaires with a katana.

Shouldn’t this be in politics, not news? It’s an opinion piece about politics. Maybe I don’t see things the way everyone else does?

You wanna know why it’s not being talked about? Because most “liberal” talking heads will be completely unaffected by this. They’re rich enough to leave.

“We need a guy who was a lifelong outspoken advocate of the working class who will take power from the ultraconservative oligarchs and distribute their capital to the poor” probably is not the winning pitch to their donors they think it is. But no one ever accused conservatives of having more than a cursory understanding of history.
