Something tells me he wouldn’t even fake his own death. He just had to lie about the date so that nothing about him is true his entire life.
It would make sense for him to die right before being prosecuted because they will just let the whole damn thing fizzle out without passing judgment if he dies.
I imagine him boasting to multiple people about how smart his death-faking plan is, saying on tape what he plans to do after he fakes his death, etc.
But then no-one involved knows what live bullets or blanks look like and he dies trying to work out who to fire for killing himself.
