Game manuals were popular in the 80s and 90s; but they are rarely made in the current year.

      Yeah, if the game is complicated enough that it would have had a manual, a wiki will usually do the job better. It can update if the game is changed and go into greater depth, like suggesting strategies. But a lot of games have better game design where they’re pretty much self-explanatory and a manual wouldn’t get much use. They might have in-game help, though.

    Pretty sure most if not all games still have them…but as pdf. Usally you can find them in Steam

    Deep Rock Galactic has a really great in-game manual

    Me and my homies were having trouble with the new content, so we spent some time reading and talking over the manual, then rebuilt all of our kits and started winning!

    In the 80s manuals were often even used for copy protection,
    like enter 7th word, 2nd row, page 24
    so you had to copy the whole manual for some pirated games

    Manuals were important in old games because there was no tutorial. It’d tell you how to play, what buttons do what, etc.

    While manuals aren’t a thing anymore because tutorials and the internet exist, a lot of games still make guides for an extra price. If you pre-ordered Elden Ring for example it came with a small guide book.

      For example the devs of the Portal series are hired by Valve after present they Student work Narbacular Drop, a 3D puzzle game from 2005 with interconected dimensonal ports like later in Portal.

          I don’t know Megaman, but I know well the mencioned The Dark Mod, a game which never can be finished, because every few times the community create a new mission for it. I am playing this game for years now with a very good experience, apart of a nice and friendly support in the community it has.
