Perhaps, but it’s a low impact, high reward thing. The amount of CO2 it conserves per person affected by the change is low and the people who are affected can easily afford alternative transportation. People who drive gas vehicles often have no alternative transportation available because they can’t afford new cars, don’t have access to charging, and/or don’t have access to public transportation and so need that transportation in order to survive. People with private planes can fly on public planes, use slower transportation methods, or invest in lower emissions planes and not have any impact to their ability to survive.

Nope. It made it worse if anything. It takes up so much of my time and exhausts me so much both physically and mentally, that I have to give up too much in order to accommodate it. Plus being ND, I can’t form habits, so it requires the same amount of energy and talking myself into doing it every time. And I don’t know when to stop, so I always overdo it, because I’m always “past my limits” so when someone says to “push just past your limits”, I push until I literally can’t move my muscles anymore. I have tons of willpower so there’s no boundary except complete physical collapse for me.

That will never work either. They’ll just transfer it to a subsidiary towards the end and then shut down the company. Then there’s no one to enforce the law on.

You don’t need Windows to use a computer. There are tons of flavors of Linux among other options. There are plenty of manufacturers who sell Linux boxes and you can always build your own. Microsoft just pays a lot of manufacturers to bundle Windows in the cost, but not all.

The Reddit IPO is about one thing only, executive pay day. They are trying to get the price as high as possible and get stock into the hands of as many people who actually would like to see Reddit succeed as possible (regular employees, mods, users, etc.). You can’t short a stock of no one is holding on to it and you can’t sell if no one is buying. No knowledgeable person would expect the stock not to plummet after it is tradable. So they’re trying to pad out the numbers with as many of the few remaining loyal Redditors as possible.

No, it’s been pretty common in the last decade or so. First they added mediation clauses mostly just to scare people into using mediation instead of suing. But once they realized that courts were enforcing the clauses even though most legal experts assumed that they weren’t valid since most people couldn’t reasonably expected to read EULAs much less understand them and they were being added to things that people didn’t reasonably expect to have complex legal implications, they realized they could put other stuff in there and have it enforced. So now there’s tons of shady stuff in some of them.

Same thing as those companies that would send you a check for like a dollar that looked like it came from a legit source, but really was a marketing campaign paying that legit source for their customer lists and to put their name on it, and in the signature line on the back they’d add a bunch of text saying you agreed to sign up for some expensive service or whatever. People would cash the check without realizing what it was and then the company would sign them up for something and it was allowed for a long time even though many legal experts said it shouldn’t be legally binding.

Every company has started doing that. Almost every EULA now has clauses forcing you to give up your right to class action lawsuits and jury trials and to use corporate-friendly mediation instead.

Nice to see a reasonably sized fine. In the US it would be like 5 million and they’d spend 10 times that fighting it in court and still not affect their profits for the month.

We’re so bad at employee management and don’t want to pay a living wage, so we’ll charge you extra when we’re busy. But wait, there’s more, we’re still not going to pay a living wage to hire more employees, so you’re not only going to pay more, but your wait will still be the same.

Use it if instructed to because many people don’t understand what airplane mode is.

Use it if you have 2G service still enabled on your phone as there is a very low chance of 2G interfering with certain plane components due to the higher power involved, though that is extremely unlikely, there’s no benefit to leaving it on. Also, you really shouldn’t have 2G enabled on any phone since it’s commonly hijacked to send unsolicited text messages or enable man in the middle attacks, etc., and few providers use it anymore outside of some low density areas and other limited uses.

Use it if you have 5G, for now, since there is still research being done on whether the telecom industry is correct that the new C-band frequencies they’re using won’t interfere with altimeters that use close frequencies. This can especially be worrisome for low budget wireless chips that don’t regulate their frequencies to spec on mass produced models. And poorly maintained altimeters that might not be well calibrated with age. The gap is small enough that it’s possible that there might be some interference in real world situations.

So, for the average person, it’s still worth telling them to just use it. There’s no benefit to having cell service turned on during a flight. The real issue is that airplane mode should really only affect cell signals now and leave WiFi alone since planes have WiFi now and a lot of applications share between devices with WiFi, and leave Bluetooth and NFC alone since they’re short range and low power and unlikely to cause issues. Just my opinion as an IT professional with electronics and wireless communication experience, but not an airplane specialist.

Mac & Cheese with a can of tuna. Usually either Kraft Deluxe or Velveeta Shells and Cheese and usually white/albacore tuna. Sucks that shrinkflation has made the cheese packets watered down so much that it’s no longer tons of sticky cheese and that the cans of “solid” tuna are now only mostly solid pieces with added filler. But it is still a decent tasting, simple meal.

Yeah, but the law is that they have to card if the person “looks” under 25, and it’s only under 16 that they have to refuse to sell to. He absolutely does not “look” 25, and I think you could make a case that no reasonable person would suspect that someone with a receding hairline is under 16 where they’d have to refuse service, or even under 25 where they are supposed to ask for ID.

Lots of cultures drink things from bowls. It’s perfectly acceptable IMHO. I don’t know why Americans have such a problem with it. I always drink my pho and ramen broth from the bowl after I eat the solid stuff. The broth is the best part of those dishes on purpose, so leaving it behind is dumb.

Google knows what you like and these days they will take any ad because they fired all the screening staff. My ads are usually pretty average since I opt out of everything I possibly can opt out of and I use Startpage for search, so they aren’t as targeted. That’s one positive thing about Google. They started as a relatively ethical company for an ad company, so there’s a lot of code and best practices in place for opting out of things. That is fading, but it’s way better than others. Like Facebook showing ads for things I searched for a few seconds ago on Amazon and stuff like that.

Russia is our enemy and Israel our ally and the US, especially the right wing, has been trying to delegitimize the UN for years, mostly so the corporations can keep selling weapons to both our own military as well as our allies. It’s not like the sanctions against Russia were ever going to stop the war. They were just designed to give Ukraine a chance to prolong it and sell more weapons to the American people to give to Ukraine. Russia wanted a quick war and that wouldn’t be good for business. With Israel, since they’re looking to keep the war going until there are no more Muslims, we don’t want anything to interfere with that.

Cool, then let’s put Ariana Greenblatt on the ballot and make them make a law on how to disqualify children.

There already is tech that’s safer and tech for reprocessing the waste. The fact that we haven’t used it speaks volumes. It’s not profitable and never will be. So unless we move energy production back to government owned, it’s not going to happen. So yeah if it’s nuclear waste that lasts millions or billions of years vs spending some money on battery tech to compliment renewables until we get something like fusion tech, yeah, it makes no sense to invest in dirty energy.
