  • I think a lot of ordinary people on the left in America have learned from the first term that being glued to the news cycle does nothing but harm your mental health. Trump is going to do and say outrageous things, but ruminating on them only serves as a demotivator- unless you live in a place with a senator on the border about an issue or appointment, you really don’t have any power to prevent a Matt Gatez appointment or whatever. The outrage machine of corporate media no longer serves as “being informed”. People who are worried are taking action in their community, building up local and remote contacts, and supporting those affected by these soon to be enacted policies proactively. Turning the TV off is a good thing for that.

Check in with your friends and family. Understand local and state politics and make sure you turn up there. Make plans for when things go south.

  • A very neat idea, quite innovative! My initial reaction would be that this would be a great way to recycle panels from larger, traditional projects that are getting upgraded anyway. My concern with new panels is that with moving trains above them, there’s a strong chance for breaks in the glass depending on what’s being transported, and a huge amount of loss due to dirt accumulating. Those conditions may result in harsh losses for new panels, which may be more beneficial in production elsewhere! Mid- to end-of-life panels might not be producing as much power anyway, so getting a second life in a situation like this one might squeeze a little more power out of them that you wouldn’t get otherwise.

Of course, solar panels are very inexpensive nowadays, so financially it might not make that big a difference, but I think it’s good to think about best use of the resources we have regardless!

  • Well for the snow, I’d imagine the cleared circle is from the heat from the fire. I’d say it’s more suspicious that the chopping block has unmelted snow on it so close to the fire, but it’s also possible someone moved it into frame for the picture, which also could be why it’s more crooked. And do you never put Christmas lights outside where you are? It could very well be just a regular tree with outdoor rated lights on it.

Not saying that it’s 100% not AI or anything, the vibe is definitely AI, just that I don’t see anything completely unreasonable in this image that gives it away.

Edit to add: it’s a photo from 4 years ago, categorically not AI.

  • Was @pyre@lemmy.world’s comment not sufficient in this regard? If this is your first time getting misogyny defined for you, I think you need to branch out from Joe Rogan and try some media with women’s voices as a focus.

Since you need your hand held here, this is my perspective: this comic’s humor is just perpetuating a common, incorrect stereotype that women act nice to each other but actually hate each other. The punchline is secretly “women be bitches am I right?” and I believe this because if you swapped either or both of the characters in the comic out for men, it would no longer work as a joke.

Now funnily enough, I didn’t make my Bechdel test joke for the purpose of starting a debate with dudebros online. I’m sure you’ll find something in this comment to pick apart and continue sealioning, so here is your notice that I will not be replying further. Good luck on your journey of learning about feminism!
