That’s not brain drain. Brain drain is when high qualified people leave their country, mostly because of the lack of infrastructures costing them opportunities for studying or working in their respective field.

What you’re talking about is capital flight. This is an issue that is systematically raised as a counter-argument by liberals in debates on taxation. The problem is that it is seriously overestimated:

• Leaving a country is a lot more complicated than it sounds: you lose your family, your friends, your culture, your habits. Many millionaires who leave their country end up coming back after a few years.
• You can’t relocate your real estate investments.
• Going abroad doesn’t exempt you from paying taxes (especially exit taxes).
• A country that wishes to do so can prohibit the relocation of a profitable company, or even nationalize it.
• Many rich people who threaten to leave if taxes are raised end up doing the math: if there’s a profitable business, they’ll stay. And in a country that finances its infrastructure soundly and has a good distribution of wealth, there’s profitable business to be had.

While true, how is that any different to the arguments that were used for TV?

Television is bad because it is a passive activity, but it is less harmful than the continuous ingestion of micro-videos. But I don’t see what it has to do here.

As has been the recommendation for practically everything for the four decades I’ve been on this earth, moderation is key. Instead of hating new media, either regulate it (if the evidence is truly that great) or treat it with healthy moderation.

Ton sondage montre juste que les gens dans cet échantillon ont d’abord choisi sur 1) le programme et 2) Les chances de passer au second tour. Il demande les motivations principales de leur vote, pas si ils aiment Mélenchon.

La ligne qui nous intéresse, c’est « La personnalité du candidat », et Mélenchon est avant-dernier ex-æquo avec Hidalgo, et à peine au-dessus de Jadot. Ça veut dire que même parmi ses propres votants, Mélenchon n’est pas populaire, alors maintenant imagine sa popularité chez les votants d’autres partis et les abstentionnistes.

Et puis bon, c’est gentil les concours de popularité mais à ce jeu là Roussel serait devant tout le monde à gauche. Ce qui nous intéresse les plus c’est les élections et, en l’occurrence, le constat est clair : les électeurs de gauche on massivement voté Mélenchon, par adhésion à ses idées.

T’as un gros problème de logique là, être le premier parti de gauche ça ne prouve pas que LFI n’aurait pas pu faire mieux sans Mélenchon (= qu’il n’est pas un repoussoir), et ça ne prouve absolument pas que tous la quasi-totalité des non-partisans de LFI qui cherchent un candidat valable à gauche ont voté pour lui.

Dans ton raisonnement, tu occultes tous les votants qui ont voté dans d’autres partis par dépit, dont un nombre significatifs se reportent même à l’extrême droite, et tu occultes les abstentionnistes qui ne se sont pas déplacés faute de candidat valable.

Regarde la gueule de certains sondages, c’est flagrant que beaucoup votent LFI malgré Mélenchon, il a la même popularité que Hidalgo parmi leurs votants respectifs.

Je veux bien que tu m’expliques le rapport là. La seule chose que ces chiffres montrent, c’est que LFI a eu le plus de votes parmi les partis de gauche, et ce n’est pas ce que tu as prétendu.

We’re finding gigantic pools of gas and liquid that stayed in the same place for millions of years. Nuclear waste will be either solid or liquid, so it is way easier to contain than gas, and sealed in containers.

Even if the containers break for some reason, the solid waste will just no move, and radiation can be stopped by a few centimeters of water. The liquid waste would not move either, but let’s say it moves for some magical reason, then there is only one way it would move : down. There is gravity and pressure, you know.

Nuclear can be economical and profitable, when you don’t perpetually throw wrenches in the works.

This cube contains 98% of the radioactivity in all French nuclear waste, produced over 60 years.

• 90+% of it can be re-used in the future EPRs and 4th gen reactors, and transformed to low-level waste which are way less radioactive.
• The most radioactive waste are those which deplete the fastest. You don’t have to store those ones for millions of years, we’re talking about decades or 2-3 centuries at most.
• It’s sealed and not going anywhere and it can definitely wait years, even decades, for something like Cigéo to be built.

Stop pretending it’s some kind of unsolvable problem, nuclear engineers have solved it decades ago, it’s just anti-nuclear folks that oppose all solutions provided.

And yet, EDF has built the current french nuclear reactor fleet without any subsidies, and made billions of euros of net profit every year for decades, excepted in 2022. It is feasible. Current failures are not inherently tied to the nuclear technology. It’s political.

Plain false. Cigéo will work for 100 years for about 25 billions of euros. That’s dirt cheap. And you now why it’s dirt cheap? Because the entire high level radioactive waste produced by a country like France for 60 years fit in a 16 meters wide cube. And most of it will be re-used in future EPRs.
