Where I’m from the heating utility was turned on last week and will remain on until April. To me, running a heater for 30 minutes/day during winter seems acceptable:D

The question is: is it efficient enough during the cold season? Cyprus, situated in the middle of the Mediterranean heat reservoir and with plenty of daylight during the off season seems to be well situated.
As for the need: I’m from up north, our houses are built to keep heat inside as that is most positive for our energy consumption. In the south, houses try to limit the need for cooling. The effect of which became very clear to me when I went to the Mediterranean in November. Heating? Yea please.
I never said anyone did, i was just reminded about a joke describing how some actions overshadows other activities when retold among peers.
Which reminds me of that old joke: “but you fuck one coach…”
Edit: just spotted my typo… I’ll leave it in😊
Well, that’s been the basis for some other products. AMD and Intel comes to mind😊 They both have IP the other need and historically Intel has been the dominant one, but now the tables have turned somewhat.
I’m itching for a shovel, though…
Exactly. His followers expect there to have been an audience and those fictional people should have been crazy about it…
And to make it worse, they are none too concerned with facts to begin with.
I feel that is the issue with this post to begin with. Is it a shitpost or not? Seems more like a load of hot air to me
Anything that is more about talking to different parties rather than documenting and being the one to deliver. the more specialised people the better you connect, the bwtter. They will love your ability to see the patterns of the work place, your helicopter perspective. That will help them to test their ideas, to understand the concepts and what their task is all about. They will also love that you will not micro manage (as long as you dont end up hyperfocusing on their topic) and let them do their thing.
Don’t be the specialist. Don’t be the one that tries to have an eye on all the details, all the numbers. I tried to be an accountant for a while…
As long as we find a way to make use of the excess electricity produced, yes. Today we don’t have enough intermittent energy users. For storage, or otherwise.
There are initiatives calling for/demanding an expanded hydrogen infrastructure, for instance, so that could be one thing. I believe Germany is the leading country of such initiatives.
That’s what we are reduced to. That is what I mean. I also say that in the EU directive called EED, the union demands that, starting 2026, every public body needs to put PV-cells on the roofs of the buildings they use.
That will be noticeable.
I wish we could. That capacity is already booked. The batteries we are deploying needs to be used as local storage. And this is before the EU mandate on solarpanels on all roof tops has taken effect. The grid can’t expand at that rate, unfortunately.
Had blocking news and access to information been in the cards, as you describe, there would be another discussion. This is not it. The closest this comes is to block a linkaggregator. One that has been deemed to violate the laws in its area of business and being reluctant to take steps to rectify the situation.
This being the supreme court doing it does bring up the question of democratic decision making, which famiously has been proven by other countries recently. Although they also gave their president the power to remove themselves from office, if I’ve understood that particular debacle correctly.
That’s not a straight line, although it is possible to follow without changing direction😊
Absolutely! And tests are being performed on how to actually make something that is low carbon and practically useful, like in Fjell, in Drammen in Norway. Unfortunately it’s not as easy as finding an aquifer and heat it to boiling point. Here is a link to the Fjell test: https://www.muovitech.com/SE/?page=news&id=649
Well, Yes and no. Water is a great storage, but it is hard to insulate and very corrosive in the long run. And on the grand scale of things, the amount of water that needs to be heated for city scale applications are hard to deal with. There are cities which has connected huge caves to the district heating system, but the amount of energy stored there is rather insufficient. A case in point, Mälarenergi claims that their energy store, the size of about 120 Olympic swimming pools heated to 95 degrees C, would power a city of about 100 000 people for about two weeks in somewhat benign weather conditions.
Winter is longer, though, and we need to find ways of storing more heat for longer to be able to make a real dent in demand. There are other methods though, and even better is that some of them doesn’t need any carbon what so ever to be viable. And with the new EU directives (EED and EPBD) the foundations and Incentives has been given to start the race for better (district) heating solutions.
That’s true. It is also true that power was generated to support the polish market when half of Sweden’s nuclear reactors had to be taken out of production due to some malfunction during a bad cold front in December.
Having said that, electricity is still scarce during winter which means that a lot of it is used for heating. That must end and ideally in a way that let us use the energy excess during summer for heating during winter.
Well… Its built on statistics and statistical inference will return to the mean eventually. If all it ever gets to train on is closer and closer to the mean, there will be nothing left to work with. It will all be the average…
As with all heating relying on water for energy transport, absolutely when building new buildings, but will cost an arm if you add it in a remodeling.
As for solar capture in Sweden, there are a few places that try to store heat in sandpits, among others a high school in Stockholm. And on that subject the Finns must be mentioned😊 Will be interesting to follow!
