It kind of means women shouldn’t be taken seriously, because they’re just “silly little airheads” who just cook and clean.
I disagree, although I can definitely see where you are coming from. Places like Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi are still dealing with outright racism in some areas. There was even astory I read about a town that had a white okigarchy which wouldn’t give its black resudents mayorship. The South, while seeming like it won’t change, will eventually have to. There are a lot of demographic shifts happening here that will force it to change some. Not to mention a growing labor movement, awareness of clinate change, and growing activism to address social issues that will increasingly put pressure on local and stare governments. So, yes, it will take time to correct the inertia of the status quo, but it’s possible.

I barely even know about him in the first place lol
I hope this really hapoens. I’ve heard that video game development is a toxic jndustry to be in, from underpaid developers to strict dealines to meet. I really hope they will unionize!
“Girl, you are my Two’s Complement, you’re always my plus one on any occaision”
Cuz if you invert the bits of of a binary number and add one you get its negative number, so your girlfried is an equal part of you
For me, Blender was probably my very first introduction into FOSS. I was using it because it was free, but I also liked the concept behind having a useful software the people used everyday to make cool projects like movies and animated shows. I did a project on it in. What really got me down the rabbithole was Debian. I had come across it in computer class, and I really liked the interface. i did more research and came to love Debian for being a stable distro run by the community. From thereit’s history.
I agree with this post you made. If the best we can do is vote into office a fairly old, out-of-tuoch president who has done a moderately decent job of running the United States, then it’s a lose-lose situation for everyone. Politics especially in the United States has become too boring and safe. We need to take a risk on Cornell West and spice the game up a bit. Else we’ll repeat the same mistakes we’ve been making for the past 50 years.
I’m not sure, but if it gets the ability to sync comments and posts across instances, i’d love that feature!
Ooh, thanks for your analysis! I never considered the “lack of choices” perspective.
Yeah, i totally agree. Electoralisn is one path, however, if more people resist, it’s a way better effort. The problem is just even getting people engaged right now. The main focus should be getting these structures and networks up and running, especially in underserved places like rural towns and impoverished areas.
At thsi point the only reasonable thing we can do is have a massive grossroots effort at local and state levels.
We need outoftheloop, or something like that for lemmy, i enjoy reading all the juicy drama thats bound to come from the wonderful concoction of early unstable-ish foss software and people problems.
There might be, but as a standard mp3 is by far the most cross compatible format on any device. Plus, if you feel like it later you can just create a program to convert all the mp3 files into other formats.
No, you are definitely right. There is a time and place for federation, it’s like a town deciding to incorporate with a larger region. If the town is too early in its infancy, the overall culture and debate will be drowned out by larger servers. But the risk of also not federating the town means that there is a chance of the community dying off. I’m thinking there should at least be a snaller period of considering the effects of opening up your server to the network, and consulting other instance admins about the idea.
Honestly, so far, for my lemmy experience, Beehaw, as well as a few smaller instance, have been pretty safe spaced, and a lot more chill than the general atmosphere of the Internet. They are a good example of what good moderation looks like, and i hope this style catches on as instances grow.
I will just say it has always been an observation that degrees in humanities and the social sciences augment math and acience and help us understand ourselves and the world. We need more imagination and introspection from the liberal arts so that we can implement the ideas in real life with nore technical math and science degrees.
Honestly, this was a very cool experience. Being able to log in with a Lemmy account on the open Fediverse showed me a taste of what is possible. Now if we can figure out how to migrate accounts to different instances I’d honestly love that so much.
