The last major holdouts in the protest against Reddit’s API pricing relented, abandoning the so-called “John Oliver rules” which only allowed posts featuring the TV host. It's the official end of the battle. The Reddit protest is over, and Reddit won.
Great thing about hacker news is they have actual paid mods that really keep things civil and prevent the forum from turning into a cesspool. Despite people proclaiming “hn is turning into reddit” every once in a while in past 12 years, the mods do a solid job and it hasn’t turned into reddit yet. Whenever I visit hacker news there is a chance that I’d learn something new. It’s a very valuable resource.

Yeah i just don’t mesh with hacker news’ userbase politically, the one thing I’m passionate about. I will read tech stuff there but they’re just a bit too… Neoliberal? (My guess as the best broad term?). This, with a healthy dose of dunning-kruger from people at the top of their field, keeps me lurking
