Yeah also, we dislike organized religion not the concept of god itself. The 2nd panel should be “I’ve joined a socially-acceptable cult”. There’s nothing anti-atheist about God which can mean a million different things, not necessarily a creationist deity.

As a borderline atheist/agnostic, I don’t really mind my kids learning about religion, they’re even in a Catholic school (not my idea though). I’ll actually tell them what I can about Christian beliefs and other non-Christian religions as well, as a sort of subtle way of showing them, “None of these people have a monopoly on the truth. If this other religion’s beliefs sound weird, then think again about what they’re teaching you.” I don’t try to be condescending or insulting or anything, I don’t want my kids to feel like I’m pushing them one way or another, but I want them to know that there isn’t a single version of the “truth”.

I think if I’ve done my job correctly as a parent and instilled my kids with critical thinking skills, the more they learn about religion the more it will push them away from it. I’d rather they come to a decision on it themselves, rather than just blindly following me. If instead they do become religious, then that’s fine too, the same way I wouldn’t mind if they came out as LGBTQ+ or as a Swiftie, whatever happiness looks like to them is ok by me.

Me in the 2nd panel: LUCKY ASSHOLE. You’re not going to die terrified of oblivion. It’d be so nice to be able to brainwash myself into believing in heaven lol.

My best hope is turning my consciousness into a Cookie and uploading ourselves into a digital heaven ala Electronic Singularity. Pretty sure I was born 200 years early for that.

If it makes you feel any better, there is a good chance we’re living at the peak of civilization and it’s all downhill from here (or been going downhill for a while, depending on your perspective).

Every generation has their world ending doom scenario. I’m not saying that the problems we currently face are not substantial, but historically civilization has just kept plodding along.

Bingo lol. Life is a fucking blast. Not knowing how shit ends and all that other random bullshittery you’d like to know if you had a Dev Console is just sad.

Even theists woudn’t believe it. If I told some believer “I am god” they’d take it as a joke, but what if i actually was? What if I’m a reincarnate or some shit they talk about in religious books or whatever?

As a God, you could just make them believe you.

If my kid came out to me as the second Jesus or reincarnated Buddha, I’d ask them to prove it by doing a small miracle. Like cleaning their room or anything else that is completely impossible.

I think you misread, it says “I’ve found god” (as in, “I’ve suddenly decided I both believe in god and believe I have a close personal relationship with god”), not “I am god”.

The fuck are you talking about?

I have been growing up around christians, I have been actively indoctrinated by christians, I have been berated for no longer being christian.

It’s not like many atheists in western countries need to use their imagination to put words into the mouths of christians, most can use their memory.
