Huh, can you try deleting and reinstalling? I wonder if some of those mega GIFs are cached. Build 2023.8.7.1.45 should have solved this.

Yep, you should just be able to download again from the TestFlight app.
Did that, worked fine, been working your app for awhile & it seems happy again. I hate being the guy who keeps hollering crash all the time but figure you want to know. I like Bean.
Yeah, I would definitely rather know than not know! GIFs have been driving me wild but I think we’re nearing a solution that I’m happy with 😊

2023.8.2.1.29 iPhone 14pro iOS 16.5.1
App crashes browsing All, scrolling over the first about 5-10 posts. After the restart it was stable.
2023.8.3.23.19 iPhone 14pro iOS 16.5.1
I updated the App and it crashed after scrolling through all in card layout, black theme. It crashed at the 16th post and it was the first start for about 20-24h. After restart I could scroll past the 16th post without hiccups.
It happened two times today. On different posts, can’t say it was something specific. Seems it happens when bean wasn’t open for some time (hours).
Okay, I think I’ve identified a couple of issues:
- When a post with a URL has no metadata or it was unable to be fetched, a check was missing that would cause the Card view to crash the app.
- There’s a potential memory leak which seems to be caused by GIFs. I’m going to switch to FLAnimatedImage tomorrow or move GIF playback to the ImageViewer only.
It’s definitely a memory issue with UIImageView. If you load this community in the Card view it will crash not only Bean but Springboard too — resulting in you ending on your lock screen.
Oh shit, so that’s what crashed my phone.
Yeaaah… sorry about that! I’m gonna push a fix today.

I’m on an iPhone 12 Mini, iOS 16.5.1. Bean just crashed for me while scrolling the Local feed. I don’t think I clicked anything. Just crashed mid scroll.
Yeah, just reproduced it. Seems scrolling on Local is no bueno at the moment.
What sort order are you using? e.g. new, hot, active
Card, and new.
Also, which view? Compact/Card
I scrolled my feed for quite a lot longer than I could before, over a half hour, but it eventually crashed. Just scrolling.
I’ve pushed out an update that hopefully fixes this today. Please let me know if it persists.

The app’s crashing more frequently now, no clue why, 14 Pro, scrolling through All in card view.
Is it crashing around the the same post every time? Are you noticing any kind of pattern? And what OS version are you on?
Not OP, but this happened to me yesterday, with the previous build of Bean and iOS 16.5.1 ©.
Some post on my home feed caused it to crash repeatedly every single time as I scrolled.
Haven’t encountered it today so far, with the latest Bean.
- I don’t think it was crashing around the same post.
- Not really, just that thumbnails stop showing up.
- iOS 16.5.1
Today the app isn’t crashing out and reverting back to my home screen, after scrolling my feed for 5 min. or so it freezes and I have to hit the home button to get out. iPad 7, iOS 16.5.1
I’ve just pushed out a new build. Please let me know if this helps resolve the freezing.
Scrolled to the end of my feed, no sticks, freezes, or crashes. Smooth & nice to use - great!

Yes, a 444 kB jpeg gives a JSON parse error, unexpected token. Trying to upload from my iPad. I promise it’s not a gif. ;)
