It wasn’t invented by Trump. Previous governments were fighting with “bad” words too. “Master”, “Blacklist”, for example, were declared as slavery propaganda and racism.
I suppose fighting against words, not against sources of the problem, is just part of USA culture.
We didn’t actually do stuff like have the military take down pictures of the Elona Gay because it was too gay though; people tried to get their actual job done in a way that’s respectful of minorities.
Your idea of respect was rather crazy. Nobody even asked those who you consider minorities if they really want or need the master branches of the code repositories to be renamed to main branches. I don’t even ask about the reasoning. You just discredited the whole idea even if your intentions were good.
Trump is doing the same. I mean he has different goals but the method is the same.

That’s admittedly a bit silly. But what about “master/slave” configurations of servers or app instances? It’s a bit more naked what the analogy is in those cases, and “main/standby” is arguably more informative anyway.
I think engineers can figure out what terminology to use without the help of influencers and other bla-bla-blaers who are absolutely out of context and have an intellect of “GNU grep” level.
There was recent news that the current US government removed the mention of someone(something?) just because the name was “<Something> Gay”

The same level of stupidity.
Nah. Musk and Trump are firing people doing the work, not asking for modest changes to language used. That’s a huge difference
Moreover, the ideas conveyed previously were still conveyed, just not using stigmatizing language. Now, they don’t even want you to convey the idea.
Trump is trying to erase they underlying ideas. Your comparison is nonsense.
