I’m not usually a fan of sharing private stories online, but I think I’ve had enough, beside I don’t have anyone to share with, if there is a better community please do suggest me in the comments, I also won’t reply to all the comments, I might cave in after a while and stop writing, and I probably won’t follow a chronological order, just whatever comes to my mind, I’ll stick to the title though so you can find the pieces easily, I won’t use irl names and I’ll try to stick to the people’s relation with me whenever I can, I’ll allocate names on the fly when that’s needed, I hope I don’t mess them up on the long run.

Hello, I’m 24 years old, living in Syria, I grew up in Damascus, Syria, and watched things getting worse, while the city I live in wasn’t affected as the rest of the country, we had to live with uncertainty for a very long time, I was 11 when it started, and you could tell while I wasn’t old enough to understand politics, I could feel the fear in other people, everyone was scared, almost, I remember a solider asking me to pay for him just because I walked near him, I was on the way to buy bread, probably I was 12, and I tried to argue with him since we were already broke and my mom entrusted me to buy bread, luckily I was carrying extra cash and managed to buy bread despite the solider taking 50% of what I had, he threatened me to take me in if I don’t pay him, that’s when I decided to give in, I told my family after 12 years about it, I felt like if I told them I gave a stranger a little of what we had left they’d yell at me, but coming to think of it, I think they would’ve understood

I’d like to know if you’re interested in reading more, like I said I probably won’t use a chronological order, and if there’s a more suitable community please do tell

This is good writing. I’d read more. I like the pacing and structure. It isn’t burdened with too much detail. Its just a distilled memory.
