I mean, he had a great thing with Apollo but I don’t think he’d want to keep doing it, especially for a much smaller platform like ours. We also have lots of great homegrown apps inspired by Apollo. I think it’s time for the torch to pass to the next generation of developers. Christian will probably do other great things.

But I don’t see any incentive for me to go back to a subscription based app for lemmy now that we’ve got so many great Apollo-like apps for it. I’m currently using Memmy and it’s amazing

Well, this is true, it is gonna be an interesting experiment, if he decides to get in at this point he needs to deliver the best app ever, that or have some good incentives to reconsider, at the end of the day we users are the only winners.

It’s possible, I mean RiF’s developer just made one for another reddit alternative (though not a federated one). But with so many mobile lemmy apps already in existence now (and with a native ios app for voyager starting to be worked on), at this point Christian would have a lot to live up to.

I hear you, currently using Voyager ON ANDROID, oh boy how many times I dreamed about having Apollo on Android lol (at least before knowing about Boost and Sync for Reddit).
