    Bioshock came out in 2007, Bitcoin didn’t start until 2009. It’s not in the game because it didn’t exist when the game was published. Even if it had, the game is set in an alternate universe version of the 60’s. I don’t think cryptocurrency would really fit the aesthetic.

    For an in-game answer: an underwater city is a energy constrained environment. Even if they get they energy from deep geothermal vents it is unlikely that they would want to waste it on proof of work kind of nonsense, and I think those founders would have recognized proof of stake for the scam it is.

    But yeah, Bitcoin didn’t exist when the game was made ;)
