    Does Domestic Waste Sustainable Service 1 @ $455 mean the same thing as Domestic Waste Sustainable Service (1 x $455)?

    Because that’s what I think it might be saying. For example it could say Domestic Waste Sustainable Service 2 @ $900 if you get my meaning.

      Yep, based on price, that’s the one. Still, they should make it easier. If they asking people to check, they should at least tell people where to check and use the same terminology.

    Do the garbos need to know what plan each individual residence is on? How do they know about plan changes as renters come and go? That sounds like a lot of admin overhead somewhere.

    Our council didn’t give us a choice. They just rolled out option #2 for everyone. On the plus side, they didn’t charge us $553.

    How do those garbage fees work? Are they on top of regular rates? Do they reduce rates and then you pick your waste plan after?

      I’m not in Perth, so I can’t answer any Perth specific questions.

      But garbage trucks are often pretty sophisticated these days with an a system similar to taxis with a GPS map telling the truck where the next bin is, how to get there, and what bins to expect to pick up (e.g. 140L or 240L bin). They also have a video camera that records video of the contents of every bin with metadata to associate it with a residence, so you can, for example, flag people who consistently put rubbish in the wrong bin and issue fines or refuse service to those households.

      At the office I work at, our bin isn’t picked up on a schedule - we put in an order when we want it picked up (and pay for each and every pickup individually). It’s a busy street and a garbo probably drives past the office every 20 minutes or so throughout the day. Only one of them will be told to pickup our bin (or none, if we haven’t put through an order).

        Well, waste is council-specific. Our council outsources garbage pickup to Cleanaway - it’s their trucks that do the bins. They are not smart.

        The trucks, that is. I’m sure the people are Cleanaway are very intelligent. They just do their routes each week and then find a nice secluded park somewhere to chill for the couple of hours between when they finish their rounds and going back to the depot. Don’t want to return too early, they might be assigned more work to do.

        Other councils in Perth may have smart trucks, but I haven’t heard of any. I’ve only seen that sort of tech on parking inspectors at the local council level.
