I think, the big difference between Lemmy and Reddit is that we have the platform on our side this time. We are not in a defensive position in regards to the site like with Reddit being an uphill battle against both the platform and the users. We can be more assertive with these people now. I hope that even if one instance goes to shit, most people don’t understand federation anyways, so newcomers will just make a lemmy.ml account. Tho I might be wrong.
Lemmy.ml has been such an interesting beast. On one hand, I can say I am a communist and generally do not get trolled into oblivion like I would have back on reddit, but I also see all the usual anti-communism talking points from people with lemmy.ml accounts. Who apparently don’t know what the ML means.
I see a lot of “I am fine with communism, just not <insert a list of all AES states here>”. Which…is just confusing because they obviously are not okay with communism.

This is common western left stance: anarchists, maoists, trotskyists etc. They will support every revolution except those that succeeded. Here is good article explaining it.
Ooh boy! Those ultras sure do hate that article. Nothing gets them madder, or people banned from their servers than implying that maybe they aren’t the bastion of critical thinking skills and intellectualism they think they are, but are actually a product of their environment and society, like everyone else.
A shame they never bother to actually read it. Though actually reading theory and not just memorizing it to regurgitate quotes as needed isn’t really the domain of the western ultra.

We don’t, we only have lemmygrad. If we did lemmy on our side those people would have been banned promptly.

the .ml is just Mali’s TLD, although it was probably chosen from among other free TLDs for that reason
