NASA called the soaring heat “part of a pattern of increasing global temperatures, as a result of human activities, mainly carbon dioxide emissions.”

I’ve unfortunately reached the point of “Yup. I’m not surprised” with little other emotion. I can’t do anything about it. I eat red meat once a week, live in a city so I don’t drive and work from home. I don’t know what else I can do but I do feel exasperated. Like, how can no one who holds the power to change, care? If they don’t, how can I care anymore?

Same, with every headline I read I feel “Yep, this is done”, I don’t have the energy to be optimistic anymore.

It’s not really a average individual problem. It’s a corporate issue. If you tried you probably couldn’t pollute in your life what some companies do in a week.

Not that it’s not good to try to do what you can, but we need to legislate this issue.

So… this isn’t to get you down or to be a contrarian, but I want to ask honestly what you’re doing to get the attention of those who hold the power to care?

Edit: in other words I don’t wanna sound like a jackass because I know you’re doing more than most, it seems.

If they aren’t paying attention to the main stream news which now is no longer pretending climate change isn’t happening, and is saying it outright is responsible, then I doubt they’ll pay attention to little old me.

Totally disagree. Check out MN and MI as examples of what happens when people are directly involved.

Corporate democrats aren’t going to make the sacrifices needed to stave off the worst of climate change, they have reelections to worry about.

We’d need to roll back so many modern comforts in order to actually make progress in making sure we don’t destroy the planet and no one is lining up to be the boogie man who takes AC away from millions.

I hate to say it, but most people will only care when climate change personally affects them, just like COVID. Until then it’s heads in the sand all around.

So… uh… why aren’t you trying to replace them with further left democrats?

Maybe it’s a dumb question to ask someone who already feels defeated, but I’ve seen it done.

lol for real? Just look at the 2016 and 2020 elections. our two party system will never allow for far left politicians to be elected. The DNC will ensure that only those who are beholden to their corporate overlords get on the ballot.

I’m looking locally, where I can make a difference.

You a member of your local DNC? If not, I’m assuming you have no idea how the process works.

When the people voting for the party’s platform are further left, the party’s platform moves further left.

The biggest problem is that even if far left politicians get elected locally, it’ll be years before they get into positions where can enact the changes we actually need to stave off the worst effects of the climate catastrophe.

By that point it’ll have been too late for a long, long time. We need people who will act now and they don’t exist.
