I don’t think Drop has had a great reputation in the community as of late anyway. But it will be interesting to see what happens with the more obscure items that Drop regularly stocks… I.e. OLKB orthos and other split and abnormal layout keyboards.

Im out of the loop, what happened?
They just put out a lot of mediocre products, mostly. Also they were hilariously rude to the creator of the MT3 profile (which is one of their signature accomplishments in the keyboard space)
in addition to @kukkurovaca’s comment, the transition from Massdrop to Drop also alienated a lot of people – they dropped (ha!) almost all of their niche communities (ultralight camping, EDC, quilting, etc.) as well as their original mission of coordinating group buys for those niche communities
Let’s make more money… MORE MONEY… MORE FUCKING MONEY…
Greed will destroy us
That is how business works, yes.
It shouldn’t!
How do you propose business should be run in a money centric cap at list society then?
PROFITS. FUCK YOUR COMMUNITY.
/Sarcasm (sort of, sadly)
Drop has been going downhill for a while now. Long lead, slow deliveries.
Did Drop still own Geekhack? (In some ways Corsair acquiring Geehack would be the bigger story to me at least since Geekhack is one of the key places (especially excluding reddit) that interest checks and group buys are published.)
That’s actually a really good question. I think Drop did own Geekhack, but I’m not entirely sure that they still do. I’ve been out of the loop with the hobby for a while now, so it is totally possible I’ve missed things.
Sounds like, yes now Corsair owns Geekhack
I wonder if this means they’ll continue pretending that their Drop exclusives are “limited time” and they can’t stock replacement parts as a result. Or what it will mean for their Epos headphones since they are now owned by a direct competitor.
Well drop stuff was mostly unavailable to me to begin with, being based in Europe.
So this is a net positive for my POV: if I can get drop products cheaper than importing them from the US, and they keep being decent, that’s a net win.
I’d they cost too much and / or their quality drops, it’s the same as usual.
Hopefully Corsair will leave the drop team so their own thing.
