They aren’t of that religion though. It’s in name only. If most of them called themselves atheists, the beliefs of “atheism” wouldn’t change— those people would just be wrong.

Your comment is an example of the ‘no-true scotsman’ falacy. These people believe in Christianity and believe what they are doing is consistent with the religion. That’s literally all it takes to be part of the religion, regardless of whether or not someone else thinks they aren’t following the religion strictly enough. To that end, they could say that you are not a real Christian because you don’t follow their perception of how the religion should be followed. Whose to say who is right when everyone can interpret the bible their own way. And it’s not like the religious leaders are coming out against right wing authoritarianism, hell a lot of them preach every sunday.

That’s all a long winded way to say that yes, these people are christians and in the united states over half of them believe and vote in a way that makes them incompatible with modern society.

I’m not going to spend my time arguing with you. I will say this though: Christianity has a source book. Think on it.

Ah yes, the source book. The almighty Bible. Full of wonderful passages like: 1 Peter 2:18 - ‘Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh’ Exodus 21:7-8 - ‘When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again.’ Hosea 13:16 - ‘Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.’

Yeah, how could a religion with such a wonderful book ever be bad?

You are putting words in my mouth. I’m ex-Christian for a reason. I tried to be minimal with my point, and I really don’t have the mental energy to argue with you more than that right now.

That feeling is called “losing an argument” because you haven’t yet bothered to think any of this through. If you analyze this conversation, maybe you can reflect on what you think you believe. I assume you’re not as much of an ex-Christian as you thought you were…

Oh sweet jesus 🤦 Keep telling yourself you aren’t being pathetic because you’re super win at internet arguments.

If you want more people to see the evils of religion and possibly become atheists like you, you’re going about it the wrong way, bud. Even attacking ex-Christians because “no you’re totes not or you would make completely irrational arguments like me”.

See? You did have some fight left in you! Turn that inward and self-reflect, and stop blaming the world. Your next argument will be more convincing and well-constructed! You can do it!
