Donald Trump used a stretch of wall and a pile of steel beams to draw a visual contrast between his approach to securing the border and that of his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.
Kamala is gonna absolutely destroy you in the debate.
The good news is: probably; the bad news is: she has to be absolutely perfect.
Nobody gives a shit what Trump says. It’s 99% saw dust. He can say or do almost anything, and it won’t even stand out against the backdrop of 50+ years of well publicized questionable behaviour. Then the people who benefit from his relevancy just hone in on the clips and bits that closest approach coherency. Trump isn’t even a man, so much as he is a concept. He could just stand there mutely making faces and his base would hunker down and figure out a way to conform it to their rudimentary sketch of reality. Where as everyone is going to be going through Harris’ every word with a fine tooth comb.
Even if she evicerates him, cites facts, speaks eloquently, it’s just going to be conspiracy fodder to the mob. They’re a mob. All they do is yell and burn down what they don’t understand (which is plentiful).
I’m excited to see it. But I would council against underestimating hateful people.
If she pulls off a perfect debate, they’ll criticize her for not being gracious and lady-like. There’s really no way for her to win in front of Trump’s crowd. So what she really needs to do is inspire everyone else to get out and vote, and not offend anyone who was already voting for her.
Yes, interestingly the debate is sort of a bigger risk for Harris at this point. Everyone is expecting total and utter domination from her, so anything less will be a huge win for Trump. If Kamala doesn’t match the imaginary picture everyone has painted of her right now it could be a huge shock awakening for people - threatening to really take some wind out of her campaign.
