What sort of features 🤔
Ones that are built into the CPU’s hardware but you have to pay extra to unlock like a DLC for your CPU. That’s not a joke, Intel’s new Xeons are like that.
And that’s when you remember why you have been an average AMD enjoyer.
Great, now we have to pirate processor DLC.
Yeah its crazy. And according to Wendell at Level1Techs its actually a huge benefit but yeah, especially at a datacenter scale I can’t see anyone buying chips with dlc. Especially with Epyc currently spanking everyone’s butt right now.
That seems like a big security risk.
AMX, I guess?
That said, being a “fan” of either company over the other is pretty cringe. When you’re getting a new CPU, just go with whoever’s got the best stuff this generation
Not a Fan. I’m an enjoyer
Same with GPUs. Man as an amd owner I also want to play with the cool AI kids without hassle
Honestly, it’s probably more worthwhile to rent a GPU on the cloud rather than buying one for this purpose. Unless you are either working with AI or doing something serious with it, it’s likely the better (and more cost effective) option either way. Hardware for training is fairly cheap.
Yeah. I’m currently using google colab but it is sometimes a bit of a hassle.
I’m currently planning to resume using it and maybe I will get a cheap second hand card by pure luck.
I bought Nvidia for the AI packages that support their GPUs, but I’m not happy about it. I would have much preferred to go with AMD.
You mean like AVX-512? Oh wait… lol
On 1st gen ryzen cpu (until rzen3), don’t have branch recording with “perf record -b” So no way to make your program +15% faster with profile data/PGO/FDO without effort. 😞
I bought an expensive custom built PC with a threadripper CPU on it and they changed socket type for the next generation. And then they didn’t release any, anymore. Just sucks to invest.
Why are you an AMD fan? It’s been years (probably decades) since they’ve been the struggling underdog.
Just buy what fits your budget and needs.
Not sure in which reality you live in but new Ryzen series is seriously better than anything Intel can throw at it. Plus no security issues and more value for your money.
Did I write that AMD is bad? It’s just stupid to be a mindless fan. You are giving very rational arguments for using AMD hardware. My desktop PC is currently running an AMD CPU and GPU. The one before that was running Intel with nVidia GPU. And the one before that was AMD with nVidia.
Just don’t go “hurr, durr, only AMD!”
That’s your assumption am an AMD fan. Never had AMD before current PC and all the rest is Intel. I just use what’s best for the job I do and try to look past fanboyism. But whatever…
@MeanEYE They have the same security issues since it’s an architecture thing. Ryzen has been really good though. Also EPYC.
Which security issue are you referring to? Meltdown was Intel exclusive while Spectre claimed to be present on AMD only partially but there were more versions discovered later that were present.
Ryzen released in 2017, so definitely not decades.
