Playing through the game for the first time as an arcanist and I’ve reached level 28, though I’ve only hit level 21 on the MSQ.

I’ve constantly being level sync’d and was wondering if it might be better for me to level up another class so I’m not constantly being unable to use my skills.

Looks like you’ve already gotten a lot of good info on potential perks of leveling another class, so I won’t add anything there.

If you do choose to level another class, I’d suggest doing the Hunting Logs for it! This is the fastest way to get early experience to get classes up to the level where you can start doing daily roulettes. These are available for all base-game classes and can be found under the “Logs” menu.

Hunting log looks perfect. It’s nice that it tells you the general area where the mobs are located.

Yep! I like to find them myself, which is usually straightforward enough, but there are a couple of tricky ones (e.g. in caves or other odd nooks) that I resorted to looking up online, so that’s always an option too.

As long as you have the class active, hunting log targets will have an icon above them that looks like concentric crescents, or a bullseye with an divot in it.

IMO it’s nice to explore different classes, and you get to experience playing from the perspective of a DPS, Healer or Tank respectively, which might allow you to be more effective on the class you want to specialize on. Who knows, you might also enjoy the other classes, too.

It’s up to you. I like levelling lots of alts so FFXIV allowing me to have everything on one character is great. I do encourage trying out different roles so you get a feel of what they’re capable of.

I leveled a Dragoon using the MSQ and a white mage doing all of the dungeons, my daily queues, and extra MSQ when my dragoon was over leveled. It was slightly slower but I was really happy to have two classes maxed around the same time. Then I picked up gunbreaker and had one of each role. I think it’s worth it because you’re going to spend so long clearing the MSQ anyway that you won’t really notice the extra time and if you level a tank or healer like I did you get to avoid DPS queue times

Yea, it seems like the MSQ gives so much experience. I know that I’ll be doing it for like 100 hours or more so I might as well have a couple of different jobs to play to spice things up here and there.

I’m happy to hear that there really aren’t any downsides to doing it.

The “downside” I had is once or twice my DPS fell behind in levels, usually around the end of an expac. But then I just did some dailies with it and the problem was solved.

If you end up not liking one of your classes or one falls too far behind you can always pick up a class that starts at a higher level and pick dual leveling back up. At 50 there’s Dark Knight, Red Mage, and Machinist, at 60 is Gunbreaker and Dancer, then at 70 there’s Reaper and Sage

Very true. Let’s hope I’m still playing by then! It’s my first MMO and I’m really enjoying it now though nothing has happened in the story yet.

I really like that the game seems designed against what most newer games do as in, respecting your time. It seems like you don’t have to play the game 24/7 to keep up and I’ve read that the devs encourage people to unsubscribe when they’re done with the content since the game isn’t designed to be the only game someone plays? That’s awesome.

That aspect of ffxiv is one of my favorite things about it - there’s almost no fomo / season pass shenanigans (outside of pvp). I’ve been playing since the 2.X days and the way everything is designed around playing at your own pace has really made it easy to enjoy over the years.

The way you can look at it is the msq almost levels you to 90 by itself. Doing anything else like roulettes will mean that you’re gonna surpass it pretty quickly. It’s not hard to level alt jobs so you don’t have to stress about “wasted” experience but it can be fun to try new stuff so feel free to if you want.

If you play a lot, you will just have to get used to not having skills whenever you’re ahead of msq though.

Great to know. I definitely want to have a tank/healer/dps so I can swap when I want. Being an arcanist is great for the healer/dps aspect and I’m going to go paladin for the tank.

Mainly for the queues so that I can pop it instantly rather than waiting 15-30 min for a dps queue.

I’d echo the others saying do what feels right for you. I’m personally a fan of hyperfocusing on one job at a time, but I also have friends who enjoy swapping around to level whatever jobs they feel in the moment. There isn’t a wrong answer to choose from here.

Also, make sure to /pet your carbuncle for me.

It can usually be a good idea to level a few jobs at once and switch back and forth to make the most efficient use of your experience. Eventually things will taper off a bit and you’ll be swapping around less, though.

That’s what it seems like. I’m definitely going to be doing it, if only to keep the gameplay a little fresh once I stop leveling multiple times within an hour and the quests take a bit longer.

Not sure why you got downvoted. You are correct, although I probably wouldn’t classify it as a “problem” per se. Normally, players are synced to the recommended level of the respective duty (dungeon in this case), unless the Unrestricted Party mode is turned on which disables the level sync.

By the end of the MSQ I had leveled RDM, RPR, and WHM all the way to 90. I would switch between them as I over leveled while playing.

I leveled a single DPS class as I went through MSQ. There are others who leveled multiple. It is completely based on personal preference.

I would personally tell you not to feel obligated to level another class.

You can if you want to take time to go back and start that class from level 1, but it isnt required by any means. They changed the MSQ to give much more XP than it used to, so you will almost always be ahead.

The only time id say it may be worth it is if you are still on the free trial and your main class is already 60.

As you play and unlock daily duty roulettes for dungeons, trials, etc., thats a great way to level up alt classes while playing story on your main once you get those classes up a bit as well.

I mean, do you want to? That’s the main question.

Altho keep in mind that around lvl 45-50 there are barely any quests and the requirements spike fast, so if you plan to level multiple classes don’t keep them at “just high enough lvl to match msq”, at least in base game.

You got a bunch of 44 quests, then there are 0 45 quests, next you got 8 46 quests, and then requirements suddenly jump to 49 for 2 quests before final base game quest needing lvl 50.

I did, and I wish I had co leveled a healer and tank at the same time. Doing MSQ with one class is fun, but I just wish I could do some missions as healer. Just my 2 cents.

I’m thinking of doing the duties as healer/tank for faster queues. DPS queues are so long I just did them with the NPCs but I prefer doing them with other players.

It’s up to you. I played almost entirely Black Mage through Shadowbringers then almost entirely Machinist about halfway through those patch quests and up to present. I only started levelling other jobs once I was done with MSQ, so keep occupied and to try new things.
