Note-taking on the go is something I’m rarely prepared for. @fdroid has Joplin. I’ve recently changed to it and like it a lot. #FOSS #App #WritingCommunity
I’ve been using it about a year now, have it synced to Nextcloud and find it rock solid. No complaints, it just does the job. It also handles html tags - for that nice splash of coloured text.
There’s also ==this trick==.
Joplin is just the best. I like the encryption function and that I can choose where to sync. I’ve tried both Nextcloud and Syncthing.
As you have already tried those 2, now also try Joplin server it’s great.
Nah, its stress to self host compared to the two other alternatives. Not self hosting at this point is a step backwards.
Oh I thought the nextcloud you mentioned was selfhosted too.
Oh why yes, of course. So when I’m self-hosting Nextcloud and can use Syncthing, it is stress to self-host a service I don’t need - like running the Joplin server myself.
True, but hosting Joplin server offers collab and note sharing as well if you have multiple users, so it was just a suggestion in case you need it.
I didn’t like Joplin when I had it synced via my NextCloud. Too many issues. Once I switched to a free Dropbox account… Never had an issue since. I love it
@techgearwhips @NeonBeal Yeah I find it hard to backup notes on #joplin locally on my device. Hence I decided to use #obsidian .
@Le0 @techgearwhips @NeonBeal I loved Joplin but ultimately I didn’t want my family to deal with having to extract data from a database if something happened to me. #obsidian appealed to me because in the worst case, it is just text notes in a folder which are accessible without the app. However, since switching to obsidian, I have been pleasantly surprised with the possibilities the software offers.
Joplin desktop has an auto backup plugin that exports to the filepath you set it to
Joplin is truly amazing.
Though, it seems you can’t custom install the desktop client to external storage or remove encryption keys on any client once they’ve been created.
Orgzly is very good and is #orgmode
