Hey so question for you all. Just started playing a Druid in D4, I hit 27 last night playing a storm wolf sort of build and I’m having quite a hard time even on Tier 1 keeping my Spirit up. Any suggestions? Or is it just something Druid struggles with early on?
At lower levels I used Shred for my main damage, then took 3/3 Abundance for 18% more spirit generation, Blood Howl for the spirit generation, and then 3/3 Clarity for 6 spirit every time you transform into a human. Then using any combination of core and basic skills that make you transform back and forth generates a lot of extra spirit.
This works even better if you can get yourself a rapid amulet - can boost basic attack speed by as much as 45%. Felt like a totally different character after getting that.
Yeah it’s just a cancer leveling Druid but once you can get one of the builds rolling it’s fine
I must have gotten lucky as I leveled with Trample/Landslide weapon+amulet essences, and Earthen Might procced alot.
It can proc on any earth magic. And Trample essence converts it to earth magic so it can proc EM potentially with every single landslide. Even the ones Trample Essence creates. (12x landslides each trample).
I leveled with petrify, and if you time it right after trampling, the second wave of trample-landslides from the landslide essence will hit the petrified mobs, doing all the extra juicy bonus DMG, usually killing everything and giving all the spirit back from killing petrified targets. That’s my protip.
There’s also a essence for grizzly rage that gives it bonus spirit and spirit generation while in dire bear form that’s a nice temporary essence until paragon points etc.
Now I’m a Pulverize Bear Mage as I got both unique Wherebear Helm and Chest. I generate so much spirit upon mob death thanks to paragon board/points.
I still won’t go into nightmare dungeons with resource burn…and I can solo T4 ~41-50s no issue except for resource burn mobs…eck.
It’s more of an issue before getting all the necessary legendary aspects. Once you have those spirit isn’t a big problem anymore.
Most classes suffer with resource upkeep. My sorcerer was painful to play with mana issues until somewhere around level 50.
I’m currently levelling a druid and not having too much in the way of trouble. Using storm strike and the howl for increased attack speed, I basically go “punch punch pulverize” over and over again.
I think this combos well with the “natural balance” aspect which makes storm skills give increased crit damage to earth skills, and earth skills give increased crit chance to storm skills.
I think it’s hard to play a melee build that uses heavy spirit-draining elemental moves? At least until your chr matures and you can max out your spirit gen.
I’m somewhere in the 40s atm with my druid. My early build was a straight-up shred wolf and that worked ok. But then for some reason I got several legendary drops that boost earth moves so I slid into more of an earth build. The basic move for earth is ranged, so you can kite a bit until you’re ready with your power moves.
Druid leveling is one of the worst experiences in the game currently. There are a few builds that can help with the resource problem, but they also aren’t exactly amazing leveling either. Just cross your fingers and hope for some decent legendary drops like the resource generation ring.
Awesome. So it looks like it should get better with gear and skills later on. I’m enjoying the class a lot just thought maybe it was me missing something honestly. I came from playing a necro and had some issues with essence but not nearly as bad as I have had with Druid. Thanks for the help all!

Spirit will sort itself over time. It’s the single target damage that’s abysmal really :/
Try to prioritize max spirit and spirit cost reduction in your gear
