Like the title says, I’ve had 2 crashes in 3 days on my month-old new bike! Both are user error unfortunately.
First crash on Sunday I fell because I lost balance trying to make a hand signal. Second crash was commuting home this afternoon, it was raining and I wanted to go to another lane that was separated by streetcar tracks. My tires slipped right into the tracks and I fell off my bike.
I was so worried about my bike because the chain stopped moving after the crash, so I wheeled it to a bike store close by. (I don’t know much about bikes but am rectifying it slowly.) Fortunately it was just that the chain had come off on one end, and the guy at the bike store fixed it for free and checked that my bike was running alright. I was so relieved and grateful!
But my poor bike! It hasn’t even gone for its after-purchase tune up and I’ve dinged it. My handlebar ends, saddle, and brake levers are a bit scratched up.
I’m an incredibly new cyclist, and now I know why this sub encourages new cyclists to get secondhand bikes. But on the other hand I really love my bike and take it out as often as I can. Not sure if I would find a bike that I love as much secondhand.
I don’t really have a question, as the bike is due for its tune up next week. I guess I just wanted to share my experience and maybe find some people to commiserate with. I’ve also been gushing about my bike to my friends and colleagues and think they’re probably tired of me talking about my bike and cycling in general, so I figured I’d go to a cycling forum instead.
