I am actually on the spectrum, so I’m kinda playing “Guess if it’s sarcastic” on hard mode lol. It’s especially hard online, without intonation or body language.
And yeah, it’s well known to a lot of people, but not to everybody. So I just assumed they didn’t know.
I figured. Distinguishing sarcasm is a skill with variables you can detect, like any other human interaction. Best to assume if you’ve seen it talked about frequently in the space you’re in online, and that space has a somewhat strong link (twitter » reddit » Lemmy) then most people there get it. Very much does NOT apply IRL.
Really? For me it’s difficult to know if they were being sarcastic or not. Especially without any indication of sarcasm.

The tell was that they brought up very well-known knowledge as if it were a hypothetical.
