I also never understood the idea of learning languages based on the number of speakers. You’re not going to talk to millions of people. And you will find enough people that don’t speak English anyways.

There is no “hardest” language.
It all depends on a lot of stuff but one very important part is what language you already speak.
Learning Germanic languages like Icelandic is easier if you speak a Germanic language like English and especially one of the Nordic languages.
Learning languages that are not related to your own language is usually harder.
