What I’ve been doing is copying the post’s link to Fedia’s search bar. Sometimes it works, sometimes it shows up empty. This one deosn’t seem to work. The comments are also usually empty.

Tbh it’s quite tedious as currently I’m browsing to every instance I want to read, and then when I want to comment, I have to copy the post link and return to Fedia, paste into search bar, and then comment. It’s a mild inconvenience at least on PC, but on the phone it’s just a pain to do. Juggling between multiple tabs is quite a demanding task on my potato phone. Not to mention Lemmy’s website is so heavy for some reason, even worse than new Reddit. AND it keeps refreshing the home page automatically so sometimes I clicked on the wrong post.

Hopefully this isn’t redundant info, but you can browse other instance magazines through your native instance, for example fedia.io/m/gaming@beehaw.org should allow you to see beehaw’s gaming community content through Fedia, allowing you to use your Fedia account.

However, seems like content is not showing up here very well due to the servers being temporarily maxed out, according to Jerry’s post anyway

@LookThere Something I use for mastodon is fediact - which basically simulates being “logged in” on remote mastodon instances. It looks like the maintainer doesn’t really have time for it, but it’d be nice to have something like this for lemmy/kbin as well - that way you could upvote/downvote/reply/etc. without having to paste into the search bar each time…

But also yeah - if federation is lagging behind due to server overload, the UI clunk isn’t the issue - you can’t reply to a post the server doesn’t know exists.

Searching for a remote post on your logged-in server lets your logged-in server know about that remote post. It kind of forces federation. Presumably that’s what that extension does.
