minus-squareRestrictedAccount@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up53·9 months agoThere was a movie in the 1970s about a dystopian future where there was not enough food to go around. The main food company was named Soilent. So it was coming out with a new product that would end hunger. It was made out of algae, and it was called Soilent Green. Charleston Heston was the hero of the movie and he broke into the factory and figured out that it was actually made from dead people.

minus-squaresamus12345@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up8·9 months agoIt was spelled Soylent, just like this product.
minus-squareMuehe@lemmy.mllinkfedilinkarrow-up1·9 months agoAnd it’s made of soy and lentils, hence the name. At least it was in the novel the film was (loosely) based on.
minus-squaresamus12345@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up1·9 months agoAnd the movie added the “Green” for some reason.
