I have block bots selected, and I have my language set, yet I frequently see both types of posts which violate those settings. Are there additional changes I can make to see fewer of each type of post?
You’ve set them in your Lemmy account settings ?
If the post isn’t tagged with the actual language you’re blocking, or if the account itself isn’t identifying as a bot, then there’s not much Lemmy or Sync can do about it.
Oh, I’m not blocking languages, I just have my language set.
I kind of suspected that it was because the accounts, or communities were missing configuration settings. That’s what you’re saying. Right?

I would disable posting as “Undetermined” in the communities I moderate but the Lemmy platform is a bit lacking in that regard, as the UI used for posting or commenting will not limit the dropdown to the allowed languages, and the community sidebar doesn’t expose the info either so people would have to guess. And it would be nice if there were some basic language detection support and recommend a language when typing something.
It’s too bad though, I’d like to avoid using undetermined so that people can actually filter posts and comments using languages they don’t understand. One day maybe.
It warns that you won’t see most content if you deselect that. I think I’d rather see posts from other languages than not see most content. Thank you though.
Do you have an example of a post or comment (link) showing a language you don’t want?
why would this be spoiler text

Not sure what you mean?
Sync for Lemmy’s advanced markup is kinda fucked. Spoilers especially. The button in app actually does a reddit styled one that only works for other Sync users.
In addition to what the other person said, some of the posts you may run across may come from federated non-Lemmy sources such as Mastodon, so your normal Lemmy language/bot filters wouldn’t work there.
Eg: this recent Mastodon post on !opensource@lemmy.ml
