This server isn’t the only one I’m running in the Fediverse :-) I’m currently running these:
https://lemmy.world: You’re looking at it.
https://mastodon.world: My largest server, over 160.000 users.
https://musicworld.social: Another Mastodon server about 1 of my hobbies
https://pool.social: Another Mastodon server about another hobby of mine
https://fotofed.nl: A Pixelfed instance
https://calckey.world: A Calckey server. A bit different from Mastodon.
https://fediland.nl: A Misskey server. Calckey is forked from Misskey, personally I like calckey better.
https://play-my.video: A Peertube server
https://akkoma.nl: An Akkoma server (kind of lightweight but fully featured Mastodon)
https://ruud.social: Akkoma server just for me
https://blog.mastodon.world: My writefreely server, yes that federates too.
More to come probably…
Probably a better list: https://github.com/maltfield/awesome-lemmy-instances
Should you make:
Kbin.world Pixelfed.world Peertube.world
those would go very nicely with Mastodon.world & Calckey.world … just a thought.
Yes, I already have some more domains, although some were already taken.
Oh I see just an empty screen of just soild background colour when I go to calckey.world.
Oh? It works here?
Calckey.world is working normally right now. But all yesterday it just loaded a solid colour blank background.
Well to be sure I just upgraded that server. Should be better now.
Oh it’s happening again today. Calckey.world is a simple block of background colour again. Chrome windows 10
I think I need to update, the new version will be released July 19th…
What about:
hello.world
So now with the size of lemmy.world and mastodon.world, I’d say you’re probably the biggest admin on the fediverse outside of gargron and his giant mastodon.social instance. And easily the most diverse it seems! Interesting!
Don’t forget @stux@geddit.social , he’s also hosting quite some servers!
If I went over mastodon, when I need to create a new account, or just use this one?
A mastodon account is separate from your Lemmy account.
I’m finding Kbin more interesting than Lemmy on trying both. I can do all the Lemmy stuff but also follow people, microblog & various other things on Kbin that Lemmy doesn’t do. Especially Kbin sees posts from around the Fediverse, Lemmy just sort of only sees thread types and gets no content from most of Fediverse, which seems a bit closed and sad. My feeling is Kbin seems quite a bit more integrated in to the Fediverse. Rapid dev pace is always appealing too. Just my impressions so far.
How do you fund mastodon.world? Do you collect donations?
Yes. See the sidebar on the homepage for the links.
How much are the operating costs a month usually?
Around 400-500 EUR. I also try to keep a blog about the finances https://blog.mastodon.world but I’m a bit behind…
Wow you’re really plugged in to the fediverse. Which of the systems you run are the easiest? What aspect is missing in the fediverse that you hope will get developed in the future? Also, how did you get to grow mastodon.world so much? I’m new to this world, there is a lot to learn :-)
Well running them all is easy, I mainly use Docker for running them, which makes it easy. I just hope all platforms will be developed to maturity, and they will all follow the activitypub standards so they can communicate with each other. Now, some platforms implement features a bit differently from eachother.
I didn’t make mastodon.world grow so much, it just happened to me. Mainly thanks to mr. Musk. Details on that are here: https://blog.mastodon.world/and-then-november-happened
