Well I cite 1 Timothy 2:12.
“I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet.”
Picking out random bible verses to support your argument isn’t very compelling. Feel like all these fundies haven’t even read the thing.
For the most part, they absolutely have not. There seems to be a pattern where the people who are the most obnoxiously vocal about religion are often the most ignorant when it comes to said religion.
Satanic Temple Tenet V: Beliefs should conform to one’s best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one’s beliefs.
Be a Satanist. Reject Christian fundamentalism and other forms of religious hold over political policy. Be reasonable.
Reject religion.

Modern TST satanism is a nontheistic, non-supernatural religion. By providing an ethical system of beliefs to interact with the world and symbols to use as a way to guide internal personal development, it can be classified as a religion - which of course you are free to reject!
I’m familiar with TST and I know how they work. I was referring to all the others.
As the article mentions, the interesting thing about the bible is that is explicitly pushes the idea that man is the steward of creation. I mean, the pope is literally on the record on this. This lawmaker also admits this, but makes excuses for not following that commandment.
So you could argue that this lawmaker, and her republican colleagues who all voted against this law, are going against the bible by opposing climate change awareness.
It’s fascinating how un-Christian a lot of the vocal Christians are. Matthew 6:1-34:
“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. …
Anybody can call themself a Christian, but the vast majority of the people who do totally disregard most of the bible in practice, especially the Jesus stuff.
I’m pretty sure the Bible also says women should cover their heads & shut the fuck up.
I mean in this case… Ok, maybe it is right sometimes
The Genesis quote isn’t wrong, Earth will be fine in the long run despite what we’re doing to it. Now humans being part of the equation once we’ve made it uninhabitable for our species is a different story, and I think she is incorrectly assuming that we will also “never cease”.
Earth will be fine in the long run despite what we’re doing to it.
What is it for Earth to be “fine in the long run”? We’re killing a huge number of other species too, with a million species currently in danger of extinction due to humans. We’re causing all kinds of ecosystem collapse and extinctions at 1000 times the natural rate. It took billions of years to get to where we are, and there’s limited time left for evolution: in 250 million years the Earth will be too hot for mammals, and in a billion years all the water boils away and it becomes a dead planet. We can expect our own species to be extinct long before that, but our impact on the rest of life on Earth, possibly for a good chunk of its remaining time, should not be underestimated.
this is not the first mass extinction event to happen. life will go on and thrive. humans are fucked tho.
She is a prime example of why beliefs fucking matter.
She is not alone in being against climate action, because even if you accept that we are affecting the climate, why would you support action to correct it if you think your god is going to give you a do-over one day? Or you believe your god would “never let it get that bad?” Or that you’ll simply be in heaven, so not your problem?
These notions aren’t unique to fundigelicals like her, either. They can be found even among more progressive forms of Christianity, too. So I say again, what you and others believe about reality matters.
🤮
Quoting a verse that happens BEFORE humans? Maybe assuming the result before half the equation is plugged in isn’t a smart idea. It’s not good problem solving. It isn’t even good literary analysis.
There’s a reason why hearing logical fallacies makes me angry.
