Well, Linux users are actually leaping towards mimicking phone operating systems, which is bizarre.

People have been recommending distros that are immutable systems + all applications are sandboxed Flatpaks. You know what system works like this? iOS. You know what system isn’t so restrictive? Windows.

That’s a really really really bad comparison.

Separating the base system and user installed apps is a good thing for security.

Having flatpak smooth over distro compatibility issues is great.

Locking down a platform to an app store is not.

There are also ways to change the base system still. It’s just the model is to do the ideal thing, which is to install the apps designed into the modern system.

Options are never gonna be a bad thing of course.

Idk of flatpaks can really be compared to iOS apps just simply due to how much you can choose to expose

Flatpaks do allow you to later on change the permission, but otherwise, they’d actually be like iOS apps. How long before some permissions can’t be changed for “security” or “compatibility”?

I totally agree options aren’t bad, but I just find it weird to see the Linux community pushing those distros super hard while a few years ago they were precisely the ones mocking systems where packages carried a redundant copy of their dependencies, had to be managed by the system, and caused issues due to sandboxing. Linux users would quite literally laugh about this, yet here we are.

Well, Immutable Distros aren’t for “Linux Users”, but for casuals. I won’t ever advice any techblin to use a classic distro, because they don’t have any interest in learning commands and terminal, but just want to use something that’s not Windows
