I didn’t see a thread for this show yet. Sometimes Federation is iffy though. If there is already a post, I guess just delete this one.

The Fall of the House of Usher is the new Mike Flanagan horror miniseries on Netflix, here just on time for Halloween spooky stuff.

I just finished the show tonight and thought it was pretty good overall. Decent production (with the exception of digital green screen backgrounds everywhere), a solid ensemble cast, some surprisingly good monologues, some creepy scares, and a good enough ending. I went in not knowing anything about it except for its genre and was pleasantly surprised.

Edit: also Mark Hamill doing a voice for his role was a treat

What did you think?

This has Mike Flanagan’s footprint all over it.

Which was absolutely wonderful for me, since I’ve loved everything I’ve ever seen from the man. Midnight Mass was one of my absolute favorite series ever, and while I don’t think this quite reaches that high, similar to his previous work, while being a horror show on the surface, at its core this is a series about justice, opulence, familial loyalty, and just how many innocents some people may gladly trample on in order to obtain power. This is all done in a delightful Gothic atmosphere filled to the brim with Edgar Allen Poe references.

This series isn’t going to create any new fans of Flanagan who disliked his past work, and if you’re the kind of person who really values realism and strict logical consistence, this probably isn’t for you, since the crux of the story really is about the higher level themes and Flanagan gives zero shits about deploying a little magic when he feels like it. But if you have liked his past work, you’re in for a treat.

Also, if anyone happens to have any personal connections to the Sackler family, consider forcing them to watch this.

I loved it. I believe this is his antology series for halloween right? I wait for it every year and I’m never disapointed. Very on brand. I don’t watch it waiting for nothing amazing just some entertaining jump scares, which he always delivers.

I’m only at episode 5 so I don’t want to read comments but I’m wholly obsessed with it so far. It’s peak Flanagan.

Bruce Greenwood is killing it. Absolute MVP.

It’s interesting to see so many races and polyamorous relationships represented in one family.

I’m really enjoying the show so far, but I haven’t finished it yet. I have high hopes for the ending.

I haven’t watched all of it yet. Wanting a slow burn so only watching one episode a night. That said, I have to say the lead up and execution of the orgy scene was fantastic. Not since the scene in one of the Cube movies, where the prisoner is dying of thirst, goes into a cube and “water” starts raining down on him (and then melts him), has this idea been done so well. Gruesome, grim, and wonderfully gory.
