A lot of players seem to be getting serious knee injuries these days. Anyone know if it’s on the increase, or just a recency/availability bias in my head?

Is there any open data available on injuries we can interrogate?

    Definitely on the rise and a lot of it has to do with the I creased frequency and intensity of matches in men’s football

    In women’s football it’s that as well, the fact that they are more prone to acl tears in general than men, and the fact that football cleats aren’t designed for women specifically, they still use the framework of men’s cleats, which also causes issues.

        Yeah, it’ll be interesting to see what impact this has. Ange is on record as saying he doesn’t really use like for like players as backups - he likes to have a squad full of options. So he must be adaptable. He will have experienced losing a key player with a specific and directly irreplaceable skillset.

        Maddison is probably the closest in terms of being able to deliver a ball. Perhaps push him wide at times and get Gio or Deki working 10.

    @hallenbeck
    Minimalist and low drop shoes became popular among people in their early 20s in the mid 2000s. This was right around the time of the beginning of the obesity epidemic.

    Knee injuries are indeed on the rise among professional athletes according to a quick Google search.

      @hallenbeck

      My own personal observations, out and about in the world, anecdotaly support this. I see so many walkers, canes, knee braces etc. And it’s really heart breaking seeing so many people waddling, hobbling, limping, etc. while carrying around all that extra weight.

      On the plus side I see a lot of people wearing Crocs, Birkenstocks, hiking shoes, and those super thick Hoka shoes now.
